hey everyone,

With the prices going down so steeply in anticipation of the 3G iPhone coming out, I figured I'll take advantage of it and purchase an older model iPhone.... that being said, I have a question.... I will not be able to upgrade to an iPhone plan. I do, however, have a BlackBerry plan that has unlimited data and texts. If I purchase an iPhone, (would jailbreak also.) and insert my current AT&T sim with my Blackberry plan, would I have any issues using the browser and such? I don't want to assume this and rack up a large bill because it's different or something, so I figured I'd ask and get some thoughts before I do anything...like I said, I don't think switching to an iPhone plan is going to happen.

Thanks!

This largely depends upon the carrier and how they bill for data. Blackberry plans use a different APN (Access Point Name) of blackberry.net, which means the carrier technically can track and charge for Blackberry vs non-Blackberry data. They could even block non-Blackberry data if they wanted to.

I don't know how AT&T handles this, but I know Rogers up here in Canada will charge separately for non-BB data if you're on a BB plan (I actually got burned by this when I switched from a BB to a Nokia E62). I've heard that T-Mobile in the U.S. does not, but I can't personally confirm this. I have no idea how AT&T handles it.

Thanks for the response... I may just have to make my way to an AT&T store and ask there.

Thanks!
