hi i currently have the Sony MDR-EX71 (well there sony erricson one's but there basically the same) but i think i may upgrade to something worth around £10-30 from amazon.co.uk. As you are the experts what are the best headphones to get? I want something thats discreet and that are noise canceling.
the senheiser CX300s look reasonable are they any good?

Yeah I would say definitely go for the cx300s at your price point. I don't know what 30 lbs (sorry I don't have that key on my keyboard) is equal to in USD, but see if you can stretch to afford a base pair of ultimate ears, maybe the metro.fi.

can you find a link on amazon.co.uk? ive got a £10 voucher for em so i could stretch my budget a little more.

EditIve read some of the reviews for them and they seem to break eaisily and they seem to be hard to fit. I want them to be very durable as i will be using them a lot for when im on the train and stuff.

All in ears aren't going to be that durable. A little piece of plastic/metal the size of a fingernail? I'm pretty sure ultimate ears' cords are removable so you can buy new cord if it breaks instead of the entire system.

ok what about theSony MDREX85 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-MDREX85LPB-In-Ear-Headphones-Black/dp/B000OQ9WFO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1214505783&sr=8-1)then? Its either them or the cx300. The max i want to pay is £20. I think its roughly $40-50

also what is the different between the metro.fi 2 and the metro.fi 200?
metrio.fi 200 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Ears-Metro-fi-Isolating-Earphones/dp/B0014QQ8I2/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1214518539&sr=1-9)
metro.fi 2 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000JFHEL4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)

i think i might go for the metro.fi 2 as ive found it for a cheap price and they seem to be a better quality to the Sony's. Also i don't like a overpowering bass personally. I would prefer a balanced quality sound.
i've gotta be honest though; i felt i would get more support and answers from a forum like this and i think i was a little let down. I had to email customer support to actually find out what the difference was and i found out the metro.fo 200 is just a repackaged and slimmer version of the metro.fi 2

Audio-Technica ATH-CKM50 (http://www.warehouse123.com/ProductInfo.php?pid=AUTATHCKM50-BLK), a good pick for low price in-ear. It's very good quality with excellent price. I recommend this!

The bottom line is every headphone listed on this thread wont disappoint you. I'm pretty sure there isn't a difference between the 2's and the 200's. As for your bass question, you can't really get an overpowering bass with iem's at all. They are just too small especially at your price point. I would go for the sennheisers or metro's first, then the sony's if you really dont want to spend a lot. I can't say anything about the audio technicas because I've never used them but everyone seems to like them on this site.

personally, after having the Metro.fi's i wouldn't bother with the CX300's good as they are. The Metro.fi 2's (200's) are the best IEM's i've come across...and i've tested a few! If you can live with the stiff cable, then they would be my main choice.

audio technicas, weak in bass..
if you go to the line of music enjoyment, they are wonderful.
