Ok this is from start to finish...

-Bought the new 32gig itouch.
-Carefully took out of box
-Opened Itunes and updated itunes (and waited for the complete install)
-plugged itouch into computer via a high speed usb
-computer initialy said that it found new hardware, ready to install...then the computer didn't do anything (I was guessing it was setting up the usb port or such and windows xp was taking its sweet time)
-Then 5minutes passed and still nothing, by this time I was at the apple site, and read the battery stuff...site said I may need to wait ten minutes with the itouch plugged in for charging purposes before I could do anything.

-Waited 15mins...nothing happened.
-hit the sleep button then itunes went to work updating everything...worked great.
-added/sync my songs and videos.
-waited until the battery indidcator showed fully charged...4 hours later.
-ejected the ipod using itunes, but there wasn't an option in my USB drive list...but I figured windows was just being glitchey.

-over the last two days have only used the wifii for ten-15mins a shoot maybe 30 minutes of total time. Havn't listened to music, vidoes. Did play for maybe another 30minutes with settings and everything to ideally save batteries...suchas turn auto wifi off.

-Today is wednesday. So the third day. Turned on Itouch (I have been turning it off all the way...no sleep) and the battery was completely dead...gave me the dead icon sign. This isn't normal right? I turned it off with more the 3/4 batter power left (i havn't used it much since I am waiting on protector case) the day before.

-I plugged it into my computer tonight and it still doesn't popup in usb drive list, or "my computer. Is this normal? It did with my nano.

I read on one forum that it wont pop up because my itouch is a mini computer...so it wont show in my usb drive list as a "disk" drive. Is that right? Itunes shows that it is there.

Does this mean, that if I plug in my itouch for charging purposes only and I don't have itunes open that I can unplug my Itouch without selecting "eject" like I would with my nano. Meaning that with my nano...I could eject my nano from itunes, but it would still show in my computer and keep charging. The second I wanted to disconnect my nano, I would eject/stop its actively through the "safely Remove Hardware" and that was when it would disconnect.

Last question.... does it matter if turn off my itouch, verses putting it on sleep mode (I have wifi turned off)? I will eventually use it an hour a day (maybe two).

Any help I would appriciate.

Sounds like either a problem with the battery or it's just not calibrated correctly. I also bought a 32gb Touch last week- I am getting:-

~20 hours continous music

or

~4 hours music + 1 hour video + 3 hours browsing with wifi

etc

etc

So you should obviously be getting a lot more out of your battery than you quote.

Also:-
Most people recommend putting the Touch in Sleep Mode rather than fully powering-down. I think it uses less battery while it's asleep than it does in the power-down / power-up process.

Also:

No, it will not appear as an external drive in Windows :(

Hope some of this helps,
Ian

Thinking of turning it off as something you would do akin to rebooting a computer. There is NO reason to fully power down the unit unless you are having a software problem and need to restart. Otherwise, just put it in sleep mode. As the above poster said, the power down/up process uses far more battery power than just putting the unit to sleep.
