I had the same trouble, but I decided since I already have a relatively capable phone (N95) that I would get the iPod touch.

Reasons?
1) Same functionality
-hardware
-app store
-SDK etc.
2) Already have a phone
3) More storage capacity available (as expensive as it is)
4) It won't be rendered useless when I change mobile providers

But arguably an all-in-one solution couldn't hurt? Right?

I'd have to finish off with saying that the iPod touch doesn't come with a 2-year contract.

You won't need the iPhone 3G if you don't have (or use) 3G services in your area. Also, over time, the iPhone 3G will be much more expensive than the iPod touch. If you already have a capable mobile phone and a good data plan, go for the touch.

Yes, i have a great plan with Telus Mobility here in Canada and i have no interest in switching to Rogers anytime soon. I also don't want to pay double the phone bill every month just to have always on internet, as finding a wifi spot here in downtown Toronto isn't a problem. The only downside is now that
t-shirt and shorts weather is here sometimes lugging around both my touch and cell phone can be a hassle.

iPhone 3G

It will be worth your money. Instead of spending your money on a good phone and a good iPod, you can spend $200 or $300 for the best iPod and one of the best phones.

Too bad it's linked with one of the worst cellular carriers
