Hello,
Did anyone else expect a price drop when they announced the new iPhone?
I've been waiting for a while to get my 16gb and I was surprised most stores didnt drop their prices.
Anyone know when we can maybe expect a price drop?
Anyways, I've been shopping around for a while and the best price I found so far was $319 on onsale.com. does anyone know of a better price? I tried ebay & craigslist, but no luck. Any website people might be selling used ones?
Thanks a lot!
The price drop if it does happen will probably come through at the same time as iPhone 3G

If you read between the lines, I'd guess that we'll possibly see a price drop or (more likely) a re-vamped iPod lineup late September-ish/early October. Right now, Apple's got the back-to-school promo going on where they're giving large rebates towards the purchase of Touches and Nanos. This is the similar to the BTS promo they did last year with the Nanos, which immediately preceded the introduction of the new Nanos and the Touch.
Companies don't offer rebates or give away free items that are selling very good. They're more than likely doing this to clear out their old inventory, creating demand for their new lineup. I'd be shocked to find out Apple does the rebate promo, and then decides to lower the price after that.

I'd be shocked to find out Apple does the rebate promo, and then decides to lower the price after that.It could happen, but as PG says, it's not going to be be announced until after the 3G phone is shipping. If they announced a price drop for the touch now, they'd have to put it into place now, which would potentially risk some iPhone sales if it was enough to get someone to just buy a touch and wait until next year to buy a iPhone. If they announced it and didn't put the price drop into place immediately, they'd just see everybody holding out for a month or so waiting on the price drop.
Although, my money, like yours, is on a much cheaper, much revamped touch this summer fall, they might opt to unveil the new touch somewhere between the iPhone and new nano/classic updates instead of waiting until Sep/Oct. This would let them create three sales bursts this year as well as not drag things out too long. The new iPhone plus rebate program screams touch update, so they will only hurt sales by waiting too long.

A price drop will occur this fall when Apple debuts new products, probably sometime in September. The 16gb and 32gb models will each drop by $100 and we might see a 64gb introduced, although we might not see the 64gb till months later the way the 32gb model was introduced out of the blue. The 8gb model I believe will be phased out. I don't believe we will be seeing any major changes to the iPod touch though, perhaps a few minor changes and the most significant I believe might be the inclusion of GPS. The promotion going on right now I believe is so Apple can clear out the 8gb model of the iPod Touch.
Remember, the iPod Touch is training wheels for the iPhone. This pretty much guarantees we won't see a highly revamped iPod Touch because the iPod Touch will never be superior to the iPhone. I don't believe the iPod Touch will ever have features that the iPhone doesn't for this reason, so any upgrades will come in terms of new firmware, maybe GPS, and maybe increased battery life.
Of course I could be completely wrong but this is what makes sense to me.

Remember, the iPod Touch is training wheels for the iPhone.I don't believe that's true anymore. It's obvious that's how the product was initially conceived, but I think customer reaction to both lines the past year shows that both lines have very little overlap in their user base. I *might* use a touch, I would *never* use an iPhone. Conversely, the guy who actually finds it reasonable to have a $1000+ annual cell phone plan will love the iPhone and never see the point of the touch. I'd hope Apple is smart enough to realise that these two products don't cannibalise one another to any significant degree.

I doubt it will anytime soon, maybe in September along with a minor update.
It would sabotage the sales of the iPhone 3G if Apple were to lower the price of the touch at the same time.

I wonder if the Touch will just be upgraded through apps and we not see a new Touch until next year, as it is a great little device, it just needs more capacity would be a big improvement.

No amount of software changes the fact that it's handicapped by the need to always be using the touch screen even for the sort of minor things you're used to doing without even glancing at your player.
I'm not touching one until they at least add a volume rocker.

It would sabotage the sales of the iPhone 3G if Apple were to lower the price of the touch at the same time.Do you actually believe there is a significant overlap in their potential audiences, because I've seen no evidence this is the case. If anything the people who would buy an iPhone don't see the point in paying for an iPhone-lite without the phone service, and the people who would buy a touch don't see the point in buying a touch with a monthly bill. They're very separate audiences.

I tried ebay & craigslist, but no luck.
Don't forget Kijiji! Here in Toronto it's how i got my 32GB sealed box for $380 two weeks ago.
Of course my 16GB sold in an hour flat for $260 on Craigslist the same day as more people use it.
