I was hoping, since my player is jailbroken there would be some way to get music or videos onto the device without using iTunes.

This is really only for situations like today - where I'm at work, don't have my USB cable, but need to put something onto the device.

I have ProFTPD installed on it, and of course have SSH access. But from what I've found you can only copy stuff OFF of the ipod, at which point you have to rename it and such.

Is there some way, even if it's not pretty....to get this audio file onto the ipod without my USB cable and iTunes?

No, not really. Just putting files on the iPod Touch doesn't work because iTunes writes the music/video information to a database file which the music & video players use to display the file information. Unless the database is updated, you won't see squat.

I have tried apps like Xilisoft iPod Rip. I find that it takes forever to get photos moved from PC though.

Why not stick with iTunes? I happen to really like iTunes, am I the only one?
