Hi

I've always wanted an ipod touch but the 8gb and 16gb doesn't appeal to me. I'm interested in the 32gb ipod touch but I'd much prefer a bigger capacity one. If I get the 32gb it will be at the end of july, price drop by then?

Any news on weather there will be a bigger ipod touch/new model coming out later this year, if so I will just wait for that. I'm hoping for a 64gb ipod touch atleast.

Well, the prices will almost certainly drop with this new iPhone release, but we don't know by how much.

I don't suspect any more capacity increases for the next few months at least.

Ok cheers. I guess I'll see what happens near the end of july. I like the touch and all but apart from a bigger flash drive I'd like to see

Hardware buttons for adjusting volume and changing track in my pocket or just without having to look at it etc I am aware of pockettouch though but would much prefer buttons. Saying that I will prob still use my 8gb ipod nano when out and about, touch seems to delicate.

Flash support for the browser. Possible firmware upgrade for the touch?

Cover flow in normal view without turning it sideways also could this possible be added to touch via firmware update. If not I'd like to see these 3 things in a new ipod touch.

I don't think the price will drop until the next iPod rollout, likely in September.

The new 3G iPhone price is subsidized and requires a relatively expensive AT&T 2-year contract. When people start selling unlocked 3G iPhones on EBay, they will be much more expensive than $199 and $299.

Also, any changes to iPhone pricing would also necessitate iPod Nano price changes. I think it is far more likely all the models will get a storage capacity bump in September. So the 32GB iPod Touch might drop to $399, and possibly a new 64GB iPod Touch would be $499.

OTOH, July is only a month away. If you wait, there is the side benefit of getting the 2.0 firmware right out of the box, rather than having to pay an extra 10 bucks for it.

Any news on weather there will be a bigger ipod touch.

Well news on the WEATHER is that it is sunny here in Los Angeles today, a little chill this morning. BUT WHETHER a bigger touch will come soon no one knows!

So as we all know the 2.0 update is out. If I buy a touch now will I get the update for free? or do I have to wait a bit. When do you think apple will announce a new ipod?

iTunes is charging for version 2.0, however it is available for free online through torrent sites. I installed 2.0 on my new ipod Touch yesterday, and it works a charm!

I sure hope they release one with an SD slot; Installing a bunch of apps to internal memory takes away from space for music.

cheers jaredcook I'll be up for doing that method also lol. So what events do they announce new ipod products, isit macworld or something but wasn't there one of those events earlier this year.

Randym what size ipodtouch do you have then, roughly what size are the apps. I'd be looking to get the 32gb ipod but kinda was waiting for something new to announce preferably 64gb touch atleast.

I don't actually have a touch...I currently have a 5.5 G 80GB, but am only using about 30 for music and stuff. Don't know what size the apps are, but it would to me it would be advantageous to install apps on an expansion card, and leave main memory for sound and movie files....

People have wanted flashcard slots... SD or microSD or whatever... in iPods for years.
Like an FM radio, it would be easy and useful for Apple to do it, but they never have.

Apple should add proper buttons on the side of a touch so its easy to just change track or adjust the volume while its in your pocket.

and an internal speaker like the iPhone.

and an internal speaker like the iPhone.
A speaker is all fine and well, but at the end of the day, what kind of sound would you expect from it? There's not a lot of room in there for a 12" subwoofer and 2 6x9 midrange speakers..let alone the 4 4" tweeters you'd need for the high end definition. :D

If you've already got an iPod that works(and the patience), wait until September or maybe even October. Chances are they might update the Touch, lower prices, or increase capacity. Knowing Apple, they might do a combination of all three. Personally, i've been itching to upgrade my 5.5G, but i've been holding out until Sept/Oct to see what new upgrades Apple manages to cook up...

AND: Yeah, just wait a few weeks after 3G iPhone hype subsides, they're definitely going to lower the prices on the Touch

I doubt they ever will. One of the main reasons the Apple products have very low failure rates (and very high customer satisfaction rates) is because of their strict hardware control. An external card slot would mean cards that come in different brands and capacities must be tested to make sure they work. Even if something breaks with an untested/uncertified card, the customer will point fingers at Apple. I don't think Apple will let that happen.

a) Speaker... the Touch aint just an iPod anymore. It's a game console and so forth.
Even crappy sound would be nice.

b) Reasons for not having an SD card slot... I don't think it is as noble as product reliability.
More about forcing you to use iTunes, and wanting users to pay APPLE, not Sandisk, for more memory by buying more expensive iPods.

I'm also waiting (not very patiently) to see what Apple will do to the touch this year. I'm dying to get one, but I don't want to drop $400 now only to see a newer model to come out a couple of months later.

Any idea when we will hear an announcement? I know the new models typically come out in September or October, but when are they typically announced?

If you believe this to be true, I have some land in Florida to sell you!

Yeah my current ipod is fine, so I'm prepared to wait before splashing out even though I'm all up for buying one now. So what is the event called that they announce these ipods, do they do it at macworld or is it something else. I've looked on youtube at the previous press conferences over the years for the other ipods, exciting.

With all that in mind, I just bought a 16GB at Costco. They have a 90 day no questions asked return policy. So--if a new Touch is announced by October, I (you) could be covered.

Apple should add proper buttons on the side of a touch so its easy to just change track or adjust the volume while its in your pocket.

I solved that problem by spending $5 at an online store. I found a wired remote (similar to the kind that Apple used to make for the older model iPods) that controls FWD/BACK PLAY/PAUSE, VOLUME, and HOLD on the iPod touch. You plug it into the touch dock & headphone jack, and then plug your headphones into the remote, and you're in business.

Buttons on the device would be nice, but that's more stuff to get screwed up. I like that the iPod touch is a mostly solid-state device. Fewer moving parts means fewer chances for problems. So I'm torn.

What I would like is a small speaker, like the iPhone has. Sometimes I just want to listen to an audiobook or podcast or video on YouTube without having to connect anything to the iPod. I don't see why a small speaker would be a problem.

I simply infer from surveys and statistics included in PC/Mac magazine articles. My personal experience about the hardware failure rates differs slightly, but hey, it's just me. :)

Excellent Idea I will do this also, deffinately solves the problem

If I can find a deal like this in England I will get one now.
