My Brand New Ipod touch Volume control does not work

I have recently got one of the 32gig versions.

I opened the box - sync'd with Itunes etc, went to play the thing and the volume bar will not move thus I cannot turn the volume up or down.

The volume lock is not on, I have tried resetting etc. Apple are being useless, I got this to go travelling with in a week. Apple want me to send it back which is fine apart from the 3 week wait. So no IPOD to travel with.

I'm relly not happy with their customer services...

Anyway has anyone else seen this? Can it be fixed?

Nope - haven't heard of it. Are any of the other onscreen controls working? Like play/pause, running applications, etc.? Have you tried to restore it to the latest firmware?

If other controls are working, you probably aren't hitting the volume control right...it's really a pain in the ### to use IMO. Half the time it won't move, the other half the time it either moves too much or not enough...it's quite annoying.

I guess it's possible that just the bottom portion of the screen is busted...but if you can click on "itunes" or "videos" or "music", then you're probably just not touching the control the right way.

Maybe part of the screen is bad. Oh, and Apple may say 3 weeks but it normally takes less than one. Dont blame them for the fact that you decided to buy right before vacation.
