If I use my iTouch at a public Wi-fi and use Safari and some how get a virus (say by checking my e-mail). Will I then bring the virus home and send to our PC's and other Mac's in our home network?

I wouldn't worry too much as most viruses are written or PC,s Macs are pretty safe as it is am Apple product, and it's not like you have valuable files on it. I wouldn't be checking bank balances there though that could be risky.

Yeah, viruses I wouldn't worry about Seth, but I wouldn't be doing any transactions on it that are of a personal nature. Especially if you are out using a public hotspot...it's really easy to sniff your wireless traffic and catch any unencrypted or weakly encrypted traffic.
Make sure you only login to sites that are "secure", using SSL or the like. Instant messengers and POP3 email are pretty notorious for being insecure. I wouldn't be checking any non-web-based email addresses on it.
