ok first off its an 8gb. i wanna sell it because i have the 8gb iphone, but now i plan on getting the new 16gb since its so cheap. I want to restore the phone, but i bought that extra firmware app for 20 bucks and want to include that with the ipod touch when sold. how can i clean everything off of it, but still keep the apps that cost me 20 dollars. I just want to get rid of any personal info.
thanks

I think that you should just be able to restore your iPod. The iPod touch's firmware has the apps built-in but you pay to unlock them. I think iTunes has the ability to recognize this which means that you just need to restore your iPod touch and the apps will be installed.
Just a note: you might want to think about holding off on the 16GB iPhone and get the 3G iPhone. A 3G wireless network is much, much, much faster than EDGE and the new 8GB 3G iPhones are only $199 with a two year contract. You can get unlimited 3G data for $30 a month and call plans start at $29.99.

yes it does...but since your trying to sell it and that person hooks it up to there computer it will erase it I think since it will be registered to that comp. Am I wrong or right? I've restored my ipod plenty of times and I still have the apps.

I believe the apps are tied to the iTunes account they're purchased with. So my assumption is if they don't have the account info the apps are tied to, they will be wiped when the new user syncs

Yeah, I second Touchmyipod.
When I had a new laptop, and I restored my iPod soon after, the apps were lost, and I had to go through finding the files, putting them in the right folders on my new laptop, email apple for support etc... to get them back :)

^ i just put it up on amazon. I did a reset on everything. So if i restore it right now on my computer it will keep the app i had?

The apps will remain on your iPod touch if you restore it. However, the person who you sell it to will technically not have the apps. The iPod touch that you sell them will have the apps installed. The apps will disappear as soon as they restore the iPod touch as you purchased the apps on your account. The apps are tied to your iTunes Store account, not your iPod touch. So you can restore the iPod touch all you want and the apps will remain on it. You can then take the iPod touch to a different computer, restore it, and the apps will disappear.

Go ahead and restore your iPod. Even if you lose the apps, that won't be a big deal as the person you sell it to will likely have to restore it at some point and they will lose the apps anyway. You won't lose the apps when you restore your iPod touch though. You might want to make a note of that in your description. The apps will come on the iPod touch but will be lost if the unit is restored.

i just restored it and now the apps are gone. and i go to my purchase history and saw the upgrades i bought, but when i click them it says error, because when i originally got the apps apple had to credit me back, because the first 2 i got didn't upload. ugh this sucks. hmm idk what to do.

Well, I would sell the iPod without the apps. It doesn't matter if the iPod has the apps or not as the person who buys it will have to restore their iPod touch at some point in time. When they restore that iPod, the apps will be gone. It sounds like you had issues from the get go so all you need to do is contact Apple. They will help you figure out how to install the applications again. Just keep in mind that whenever the buyer restores that iPod, the apps will disappear.

You should make sure your iTunes account is signed in and internet connection is available.
Also check to see if the App Pack is still on your computer
The file is located here:
Mac OS X:
~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settingsuser name\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
Windows Vista:
C:\Usersuser name\AppData\Roaming
Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
You are looking for a file named: "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa"
Then sync your iPod, making sure you deselect everything in iTunes before you sync, eg contact syncs, music, videos, podcasts, everything.
Then just sync it.
You must be signed in with the account you bought the pack with.
