View Full Version : Shure SE310, different volumes in right and left plug!

I've had my Shure SE310 for 10 months. Daily use with my iPod when commuting to work has made the upper part of the cables pretty stiff (dry air or sun?)

Recently I've noticed a 10% volume drop on my left plug. It's almost hardly noticable, but it causes a slight nausea to me with the uneven sound distribution.

Now I've had several earphones break through wear&tear. Usually with the cable breaking inside the plastic, but then it never sounds like this. I was always either sound on / off if I had a cable break.

I don't know if it's the driver being overloaded or just gunk in the sound canal. I have been pretty careful in cleaning the sound canal on the SE310, so there's nothing blocking the outer filter membrane.

Anyone had this happening to you?

I can't send them to Shure for repairs, since 1) I live in Sweden and 2) I originally bought a E3c and when they broke after 12 months, the local swedish dealer mercifully replaced the broken E3C with the new model SE310. So I don't have a receipt for the SE310 :(

Any suggestions? Or do I need to find a new pair? It feels very silly to wear a +$250 earphone with disproportional volume on each plug. Then I might as well buy something for $50 to use.

yes, i know... since i'm swedish i should be using the q-jays. but they looks so... ###...
can't imagine that those thin cables would be able to last more than 3 months of daily use...

download rockbox and set the headphone balance 10% to the left side :D

No, but seriously check the inner part again. Are there removable filters on the 310s? It might be just a simple filter replacement.

Thanks, I seriously believe it's something like that. Unfortunately the filters are integrated inside the plugs... it was one feature I loved with the etymotics ER-4's that they supplied extra filters.

I'm going to use a very small cotton tip, dipped in 95% alcohol to try and wash the filter. Hopefully it will dry before doing any damage.
