i'm not very tech savvy so i'd like someone to explain to me what this means to me, an iphone 1.0 owner.
will this new firmware basically give me the same features as the 3g iphone, except for the 3g connectibility itself?
or will this new firmware simply give me the ability to download new applications to my iphone via itunes?
will i atleast be able to delete the stock portfolio app?

you'll get some of the features rumored for the new phone including being able to download apps. As for the stocks app just move it onto a new page and you won't have to see it if you dont want to

so we get all the features the new iphone has minus the 3g. obviously things like a better camera we won't get, but i mean application wise we get the same thing.
also what is this whole itunes application thing. we will be able to get applications on itunes for free or pay for them?
we do get some new ones free with the update right?

Some will be free others you pay for. Its up to the developer if they want to charge or not.
Yes... and since I am now a paid-up developer... I get to choose :D hahaha

ok cool. Is the whole interface going to change like how icons look and stuff. I cant wait to finally have picture messaging and also hopefully an aim client

GPS - nope
camera - anything here? zoom, at least???
MMS - i hope. i'd be extremely happy if they added copy/cut/paste or msg forwarding.

Icon's won't change, and the new Apps will be able to be deleted just like Web Clips on the home screen currently can now. It will look no different except will have a new program on the home screen called "App Store"
What can we expect that they can update: (not saying they will, and none of these have been leaked about, so presumably they aren't there. My NDA doesn't allow me to say they aren't or are, so your best bet is to follow sites like iLounge for leaks)
MMS - Possible to put on the existing one
Camera zoom? Digital, yes, but the quality would drop for every zoom you do.
GPS - No. Its a hardware issue, just the software is also needed to back that hardware up.

mms is picture video messaging they could add that to old iPhone. I know we won't get gps. Could we get video recording since I heard there is a jail break for it. Also I hope mms would be free and in update. We shouldn't have to pay for that
