Syncing contacts from outlook

Having problems getting contacts out of Outlook on to the iPhone. I've read every "how to" step by step out there, and I still get an error message effectively saying that outlook is not my default mail client. I've reset everything numerous times.

I tried copying everything to a Yahoo address book, and the names copy to yahoo, but not the phone numbers. When I sync, nothing copies to the phone.

Any suggestions before I start typing manually. I'm tired of carrying my old phone as a phone book.
