hotmail question

I was setting up my brother's hotmail on his Touch. He pays for the upgrade, so it worked. But my question is this:

While he can send and receive mail, his inbound mail included mail from the beginning. Where is the setting to only receive recent e mail? I know on Gmail there is a setting(Under settings on the computer) to tell it to receive only mail from the time you set it up forward, but I am not a hotmail user and could not find a way to do this.

Anyone who uses hotmail know how to do this?

I believe Hotmail only supports POP - meaning it will download everything on the server until it's deleted from the server. IMAP works much better, but I don't think Hotmail supports it.
