I'm new to this jailbreaking business. I have no idea how to do it, i just heard about it minutes ago, that's when i found this forum..
I just got a 8g Itouch for my b-day.

Thought it'll be awesome if i can add some games and stuff for free.

But if i jailbreak it, and it gets messed up, my warranty/insurance wouldn't work anymore, since i jailbreak it? (One of the main reasons i'm scared to do it, since i just got it and it cost my brother $400).
also heard the battery dies way faster?

How exactly do i jailbreak it?..
I've been seeing alot of ways on how to do it, which makes everything more confusing.
Upgrading really means Downgrading?.. which version is the best?..

Does having a Windows or Mac matter?..
I have Windows..
My itunes says Version: 1.1.3 (With Software Upgrade) also gives me an option to update to 1.1.4...

But yea, im still clueless about all this, can someone tell me if it's worth jailbreaking it and explain how exactly to do it?

1. Update your firmware to 1.1.4 (there's no reason not to anymore, Jailbreaks work on this version of the firmware too).

2. Make sure you have a backup of your music on your PC.

3. Download iLiberty+ or Ziphone and click the Jailbreak option (do not use any of the iPhone unlocking options). My personal preference is iLiberty+.

4. Job done.

Whilst you are technically voiding your warranty if anything should go wrong the process is reversible by simply restoring your iPod using iTunes.

iLiberty+ and Ziphone are available in both Mac and PC flavours.

I just recommend that you get to know about how to get out of problems BEFORE any happen (if they do) so perhaps search the boards, or ask a few questions like what to do if you get into trouble while trying to jailbreak...

We would be glad to assist you... well.. I have bed so I can't answer the question now (its 5:30 Am here :p)

but others would be glad to help.

Knowledge is priceless with jailbreaking :D

VNsea is great - my company uses Microsoft Office Communicator for IM (don't get me started) so the only way I can use it is via the web version (which really doesn't seem to work with Safari) or via VNC into my computer. It's handy if I need to step away for a while to keep track of incoming IMs... Plus when I've been on business trips, I've used it to log into my computer and email myself files I've needed.

Touchpad works well with the VNC as well - although it's purpose is simply control of your mouse, it's great for use as a wireless presenter...
