View Full Version : Don't like the new iPod cables!

Hi,

I'm really fussy about marks & scratches on my iPod Touch and iPhone so I'm not keen on the new style USB cables that come with them as they don't have the buttons on either side to retract the clips when you insert/remove the cable.

I have a cheap iWantIt charger (which I have no intention of using with my two babies) and the lead for this does have the buttons to retract the clips. Whilst I fully understand the risks of using 3rd party chargers is there any particular reason why I shouldn't use the 3rd party cable that accompanied it?

Many thanks,

Ed.

While I don't understand how plugging in your Apple USB cable will scratch your iPhone or iPod touch, the 3rd party cable should be fine, unless it is a charge only cable. Some 3rd party cables can only be used to charge and not carry data, like my Belkin charger.

The two prongs do *leave* very slight marks. No big deal, I know, but I like to keep it pristine for as long as possible.

The other cables leave marks as well. All of my iPods have marks in their dock connectors from plugging in and unplugging cables, it happens.

You can use your charger and your cable as long at is meets Apple standards. 3rd party accessories are just fine unless they are those shady 3rd party accessories that you purchase off of eBay for $1 that someone made in their basement.
