View Full Version : WiFi Disfunctional

Greets to all,

For a while now, my WiFi on my 8G jail-broken iPod Touch hasn't been functioning. I connect to my router fine, after inputting the proper hex key (by selecting it in the security options as well as putting the '$' sign before the password), however I cannot connect to anything, even if the all the WiFi bars are full.

Another thing that I've noticed is that ever since my iPod WiFi stopped functioning, I've been afflicted with an odd IP address. Before, it was in the 192.168.0.XXX range, and now it's in the 169.254.199.XXX range.

In the DHCP, BootP and Static fields, only the IP Address and Subnet Mask fields are filled in (automatically, of course.)

I've tried many things, such as forgetting the network, resetting the router and then reconnecting, specifying the hex key (as mentioned above), disabling security and trying again, etc.

I'm not too intent on restoring my iPod touch, and will use that as a last resort.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

From what I've seen, getting an IP starting with 169 means the iPod Touch isn't getting the DHCP assigned correctly. Assign it manually. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, select the network (tap the blue arrow), change the setting to Static, and manually add the IPs. You can look up samples from your current desktop (if it's using DHCP to connect to the internet). I'd give that a shot.

Alright, great. Thanks Derek, I'll give it a shot. I knew the IP could give a clue.

I've filled in the Router IP and the DNS fields using my Default Gateway IP and turned HTTP Proxy to auto. I'll update this in a second.

Update: Unfortunately, there is no change and the little WiFi icon has disappeared. Thanks for trying, and if you have any suggestions, please post them. ;)

Thanks in advance!

Is the DHCP server still running on your router? If so turn it off and assign each of your devices a unique, static IP address.

Ed.

Sounds great, thanks Ed. I'll try it and update this post.

Sorry for the slow response, I got caught up in my school summatives. :p

Alright, once again, sorry for the late reply. My school is in the middle of summative season and it's hell'a demanding. On to the point.

I know how to turn off the DHCP server, but I am clueless on how to assign specific IP's to individual computers. I'm behind a D-LINK WBR-2310, if anyone could help me out on that matter.

Finally, I've stumbled upon a DHCP Reservations option, which -may- or may not sort of act like assigning static IP's, so I'm not sure if this is indeed what I am looking for. However, it requires the MAC address.

A final question, then. If I manage to end up using DHCP Reservations, how would I find the MAC address of my iPod touch?

As usual, thanks in advance. You've been a good help so far, guys.

Try Settings >> General >> About. Should be under "Wi-Fi Address". That's where it is on my iPhone and the Touch should be the same. It's a 12-digit hexadecimal value (with colons between every pair of digits).
