Maybe its just me and my funny feeling, but does anyone else think like the new iphone might be released sometime in the next 2 -3 weeks? The IRS economic stimulus rebates are in people's hands, and the college crowd will be out for the summer.....Apple always surprises..

Well, have a look at this:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&node=home/shop_iphone/family/iphone&sf=wHF2F2PHCCCX72KDY

CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE.

Apple never does that. Their supplies are always at 3-4 weeks away, so they can still take orders for it.

Apple will not take orders as it appears that they don't have any, and they have stopped being made. There is no other explanation for the delays, I don't think. They way underestimated current demand

3G VERY soon!

Perhaps an announcement on Hot News and then being sold from the release the day after WWDC. That way they get to see the iPhone released by Jobs without getting to touch it, and still knowing it will be in stores ready to sell within a month.

Yeah, I agree, Apple always has their products in stock. I really don't think they are going to announce the product and then wait another 6 months to a year before its released. That approach just isn't practical this time around. i think they learned something from the first release, and the whole world knows the 3G iphone is coming out soon anyways, so why delay it? There is just simply too much demand. I really think we can expect to see it in just a few short weeks.

Does this mean that the 3G iPhone is coming this week? Probably not. It probably means that Apple hasn't anticipated the current demand of iPhones. The iPhone will announced at WWDC. When has Apple ever announced a groundbreaking new device just out of the blue?

Even if they they were just short, the supplies never take more than 3 weeks to hit the US. The latest you EVER see on a product is 3-4 Weeks as said on the site, and that is accounting for domestic movements, not international movements.

Apple has not, in all the time I have followed Apple, put a "Currently Unavailible" up. Apple has been quoted saying shipments take 3-4 weeks time from assembly to being in store.

Apple often puts 3-4 week up as the time till it comes out. My macbook pro even got that :D

This is very very odd.

But I agree that there will be no announcement this week. 3G has been called "Exciting" by Steve Jobs and so that means "BIG LAUNCH" not quiet upgrade. Not this week.

Most probable scenario? iPhone v2 is currently being made, and so they can't make 1G iPhones. They predicted a certain amount, but it was not enough to fill current demand (that spiked again recently) and so a projected time of no iPhone has dragged out from being a week or two to being way longer.

I suggest the iPhone v2 will be announced at WWDC. Seems logical. Mac releases at MacWorld. iPod at the yearly Music event. iPhone at WWDC.

ya but just when you think you got apple pegged they throw you a curve ball to keep things fresh. Apple is shrouded in secrecy

I am sort of thinking a May 20th announcement and then available by WWDC. Announce the product then have it ready for developers to test at the conference.

that would be awesome. I really think the iphone 3g is at fever pitch. A later release than the current iPhones sdk would only diminish the 3G

Developers won't need to test on it as the 3G iPhone will run iPhone OS 2.0

Considering its in the 2.0 beta firmware, its a conclusion that I would find... VERY difficult to deny.

Physically, with the 3G SGold chip, the setup will be almost identically physically until they start chucking in extras like more cameras and extra buttons.... each of which won't interfere with current programs.

I heard of the unavaiable thing a few days ago. I think that you can still get them in Apple stores though. 3G iPhone comming soon!! Jobs is probably already using one.

so what key feature aside from 3G do you guys think the new iPhone will have? I know there are many people that want 3G capabilities, but there's gotta be something worth while enough to make current users switch devices for the pricier newer phone. what do you think it will be?

While 3G is necessary, I think it's been waaaaaay overhyped. 3G is still slower than wifi, and I find wifi to be S L O W (but minimally acceptable -- and, yes, this is with a faster-than-3G 6M/6K DSL line w/wifi). Personally, when the 3G iPhone comes out, I think we'll see hordes of people whining about how slow 3G is .... And the US folks will probably be complaining loudly about the lack of 3G coverage, outside of major metropolitan areas.

At this point, there really isn't a whole lot that Apple can do, hardware-wise:

GPS
More storage
Faster processor
Longer battery life
Larger/higher-res/OLED display

At this point, from the rumors, #1 and #2 may be likely, but probably not #3 or #4. Dunno about the OLED display (anyone hear more recent rumors?). It's really an individual decision, as to whether or not GPS and more capacity are worth the upgrade cost. (And, I'm still wondering if AT&T will have higher rates for 3G access.)

As for me: I'm on the fence. I think I'll wait and see what 3d party apps appear. I'm hoping for some killer integrated phonebook/notes/todo/calendar application -- one that does not require web access, but still syncs with web apps (and, if it has encrypted databases, I'll be the first in line). Otherwise, I'm also waiting to see what happens on the Android front.

so far im not tempted to get new iphone, because

1) 3g isn't a big deal to me i dont surf the web that much and 2.5g is fast enough for me
2) it can't possibly made too much thinner.
3) plastic covering. (not interesting)
4) bigger capacity size ( i dont put many songs as it is just a phone) 8gb is enough

since some of these are rumors of what will be on it, these are my reasons for not caring as much. lol

Michael thats fine, but this thread is for people enthused about the new iPhone. You've made you're case in several threads that the current iphone does everything you need it to do and thats great. We're all happy for you. On the other hand you've also stated that you are selling your phone.

I feel the same as you dasmoo. I am interested about what the new iPhone will be like but 3g isn't even in my area, and wifi is everywhere I go, thats one if the reasons I got it in the first place. I'm interested in the new model, but I'm not about to drop hundreds more at this point. I'm just waiting for the killer skype app.

I just bought an iPhone last week. Do you think I should return
it and wait for the new one?

Since I switched carriers I'd be without a phone till the
v2 comes out.

I may take it back.

Put it this way: If you can live without a mobile phone until the end of june (which is when it will definitely have come out by) then take it back. Otherwise, don't.

Yes michael, and firmware 2.0 will be much improved over the current firmware. It will also have an instant messaging app, which you ought to be excited about.

Well I hope this comes out soon.

Just picked up a 16gig iPhone last month and so far it has been great, until my girlfriend dropped the charger on the screen cracking the screen, but luckily it still works great & I have since put a screen protector to keep the cracks from getting bigger.

Th good thing is that now I have a good reason to buy a new iPhone... this time it's gonna be a 3G and I am gonna get my girlfriend to pay for it.... LOL!!!

deftdrummer1

Jesus how high did she drop the charger from? I wouldn't think the charger weighed enough to crack the iPhone screen but I guess it can.

As we where packing for our trip she tossed my iPhone, her iPhone, and the chargers onto the bed... I guess the chargers hit my phone at a weak point right next to the home button.

But the story I tell all our friends is that she saw a pick of another girl on my phone and got angry ... LOL

I called Apple and and they said that they make "exceptions" for an unspecified period of time when new product is released. I asked "how much time?". Her reply was "lets say a new phone comes out in a month" . I said "what if it's six weeks"? Her reply was that "Exceptions" was not a specific time frame. I asked that she make a notation in my account file about my concerns which she did. Basically, she told me not to worry about it and hold on to the iPhone I had for now. That's what I have done. Time will tell if they do what she said.

ya I got the price difference on my 4gb refurb when the $200 price drop was announced. I bought mine about 2 and a half weeks before the price drop.
