It's an odd problem I never before have incurred, but it's true. I also have an iPod nano, but iTunes will not open in response to that. I have uninstalled/reinstalled before but it doesn't help. Again, the issue is that iTunes will not open unless I connect my iPod touch. Then it opens automatically. I get no error message either. Just no response. It's as if I never tried to open it. Here are my stats:

iTunes 7.6.2.9
Windows Vista Home Premium
~4GB ram

here are the diagnostics results:
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Edition (Build 6000)
Dell Computer Corporation Dimension XPS Gen 2
iTunes 7.6.2.9
QuickTime 7.4.5
CD Driver 2.0.7.3
CD Driver DLL 2.1.1.1
Apple Mobile Device 1.1.4.7
Bonjour 1.0.4.12 (118.4)

When you have uninstalled iTunes did you make sure you have completely removed it (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698)?

Assuming you are on a Windows PC have you checked Task Manager's processes list after clicking the iTunes icon? Is it starting but just not displaying?

Hi Ed. Thanks for your reply.
I think I found the problem. The shortcut doesn't actually cause the program to open, and the process never appears. I deleted the shortcut, and now I open the program directly, and that works fine. Perhaps the shortcut wasn't removed during a previous uninstallation from the start menu, or something like that. Thanks guys; I consider the issue resolved now.

Strange that you weren't getting a message to say the shortcut wasn't pointing to the correct exe though. I'd just create a new one and manually add it to my Start menu.
