View Full Version : Location of music files?

Hi,

I have managed to lose my music library off my PC and I need to copy the files off my Touch. Or, to be more precise, I have managed to delete them. :)

I have an app called iPod Access that will copy them all off but for 2000 tracks it's slooooow, so I thought I might be able to use WinSCP to copy the files over my wireless network as that may be faster.

I can open a connection to my Touch but I can't seem to locate the music files in any of the directories. Can somebody point me in the right direction please?

Many thanks,

Ed.

The iPod touch stores its songs in a location that can't be accessed by the user unless it is jailbroken. You would be better off using the application to copy the songs off of your iPod touch anyway as USB2.0 is a lot faster than wi-fi.

If you're jailbroken, you'll find the files in ~/Media/iTunes_Control/Music and then in files named F00, F01, etc. And the files are all renamed with random names as well.

Hi,

I am jailbroken., but when I view the contents of the Media directory there's nothing there - no sub-directories, no files.

Kornchild - I know USB2 is faster than a wireless connection, but I only have USB1.1, hence the ridiculously slow transfer rates. :(

You're looking in the wrong media directory then - don't look in /var/root/Media, look in var/mobile/Media..

Thanks Derek, much appreciated.
