Hi everyone, i'm a newbie here and i was wondering if anyone could help me out.

My problem is that i have purchased an ipod touch 16GB (without the upgrade) and i have tried to buy the upgrade off of itunes, but to do that i must first update my ipod to the 1.1.3 version.
Whenever i click on the 'check for update' icon i keep getting this message:

'itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet.
Make sure your internet connection is active and try again'

Now, i don't know why i keep getting this message because my internet is connected and i have no trouble getting on to the itunes store and downloading songs and videos.

If it's any help to anybody, i use a PC with Windows Vista.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

go to that site and download the firmware manually.

Then in iTunes hold the shift button, and click "Upgrade" and a popup window will allow you to select that file you downloaded , with the end .ipsw.

Click OK.

Then wait for it to do its magic.

Does that 1.1.4 firmware on that site include the upgrade or is it the base 1.1.4?

All of the version 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 technically include the application upgrade. However, they are not accessible until you load the unlock key/file (that's what you're purchasing from the Apple iTunes store).
