My music is gone!

This is really weird. I'm not sure as to what happened, but I had my ipod plugged into my computer and then suddenly when I wanted to hear some tunes from it it was gone from the iTunes list. So I restarted my Mac but then iTunes didn't open when the Ipod was mounted.

So I dragged my ipod into the trash and saw that none of the songs that I had showed on the ipod menu!!all the playlists, artist and albums where gone! It is as if they got erased, but when I check the "about" it tells me that I only have 308mb available.

Any ideas? How can I get my music back??

If you don't have the songs on your computer and want to recover them, search versiontracker.com for "iPod" and you'll find several apps that will allow you to copy iPod -> mac.

If you have the songs on your computer it's probably easier to erase the iPod and restore it.
