Hi and welcome to iLounge.

You cannot remove tracks directly on the iPod itself -- you must do it via iTunes.

How it is done depends on how your iPod is configured. If you're automatically syncing content to your iPod (which is the default behaviour), your iPod will effectively mirror the content in your iTunes library. In this case, deleting a track from iTunes on your computer will also remove it from your iPod on the next synchronization.

If you want to keep the track in your iTunes library on your computer but merely remove it from your iPod, you can choose to either "Sync only checked items" or sync only selected playlists.

If you are synchronizing only checked items, then any items you UNcheck in your iTunes library (see the little checkbox to the immediate left of each track in iTunes) will be removed from your iPod. Note, however, that these tracks will also not play back in iTunes unless you specifically select them for playback.

Alternatively, you can create a playlist or set of playlists containing those tracks you would like stored on your iPod, and set the preferences in iTunes to sync only those selected playlists to your iPod. In this case, only tracks in those playlists will be transferred. Remove a track from one of the selected playlists, and it will be removed from your iPod on the next sync.

Lastly, if you set your iPod to "Manually manage" mode (found in your iPod settings within iTunes -- look on the "Summary" tab when your iPod is connected to iTunes), then you manage the content on the iPod directly via iTunes. In this case, only tracks you drag-and-drop onto the iPod will be transferred, and to remove tracks you have to expand the iPod "folder" within the iTunes source list by clicking the little triangle that appears to the left of it. You can then select the various subcategories and playlists and manage the tracks from there, updating and deleting the content as necessary.

See our Beginner's Guide to Filling your iPod (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/the-beginners-guide-to-filling-your-ipod/) for more information and some specific instructions on how this all works.
