Bought myself a touch in February. Im pretty sure it came with firmware 1.1.3 because i haven't upgraded it since i got it (not manually anyway) and it still runs 1.1.3 right now.

A few weeks ago my harddrive crashed, just got a new one yesterday. I remember that with my old nano i was easily able to retrieve my music and copy it back to my harddrive and even to i-tunes so i figured that wouldnt be much of a problem this time around. I came to realize that with a touch its virtually impossible to find freeware that'll let me copy all my files back to my harddrive and so i guess the only way would be to jailbreak it.

I have the following questions:

1. Can i jailbreak my touch without losing my songs & pictures?

2. I read that jailbreaking 1.1.3 means having to downgrade it to 1.1.2 (or 1.1.1 i cant remember which). Since mine came with 1.1.3 (i didnt pay extra for an upgrade or anything), will i be able to go back to 1.1.3 for free after downgrading to jailbreak?

Thanks for the help!

1. should be no problem, but you never know

2. not anymore. use ziphone or iLiberty to do it, it's just one click. and btw, it wasn't the 1.1.3 firmware that cost money but just the january software upgrade.
