I thought the screen was glass? If so, I would think it should be fairly scratch resistant
and not require a screen protector?

If you search, you'll see many discussions about this.
It's glass, not diamond. It is scratch resistant, but not scratch proof. A little sandy grit in your pocket, and you'll have a nice set of scratches. Get a screen protector - it's worth the investment.

Ok...thanks for the info...I'll prob get a silicone case, and that's about it. Mostly it will be around the house so not to worried about too many hazards.
I wish more products were like my LG Chocolate plastic......for some reason it is EXTREMELY resistant to scratches......
This is too... remarkably so... it just won't withstand a jackhammer, and there are a few things that may do damage, perhaps sand... but not really much risk, and you need some bad luck.
It is pretty resilient. Just don't throw it into a volcano and you shouldn't find it horrible.

I think $5 for a screen protector is a small price to invest for protecting a $300+ device. Why even bother fighting screen protectors? You can't see them and they often help fight against glare. If anything they improve what you see on the iPod touch's screen.

There is no reason not to get a screen protector. Even if you get a silicone case your screen is open to scratches. Also, the screen protector is see through and only $10, so get it. Also, I recommend you just get a see-through body skin set (such as the InvisibleShield and Crystal Film Set), they protect your iPod touch while allowing it to look great.

I was dubious about fitting the screen protector that came with my leather belkin case cos it wasn't the full size, but I bought a seperate belkin screen protector and it fits the whole face seamlesly. It also makes the screen smoother to slide your fingers over and far more protected from greasy finger marks!
