Hello,

Does anyone know if you can get FaceBook working on the Touch ?

I have gone to the Facebook website but nothing works because it needs Flash :o

Is there perhaps a Facebook app ? if not, has anyone had success with Facebook ?

Try heading to this on your iPod Touch/iPhone:
http://iphone.facebook.com

That should work, and open the iPhone/iPod Touch user friendly version :)

The only flash I've noticed on facebook is the advertising, which isn't a problem.

Yeah, usually, Facebook notices when you're trying to access Facebook on an iPhone and automatically directs you to the iPhone version of Facebook.

thanks for the link to the Facebook link for the iTouch. Works "ok" ( it won't even let you see photos however ) , if you surf to the website
(Facebook.com ) on the iTouch, you can see photo albums, it works, but the iTouch version of the website doesn't show anything but text :o

As for flash, - if you use FaceBook quite often, you'll know that all videos on Facebook
are flash.

I did some searching today on YouTube, and there is an app that allows you to get Facebook working with a version of some sort of "flash"

Some are saying this app installs a real version of flash player on the iTouch, however I'm a bit skeptical, and thought I would ask here.

If it is not true, I wonder why we can't use flash on the iTouch, flash has been around for so long, why would Apple not have had this running ? ( if you surf websites with Safari, you quickly realize how limited it is, because many graphics are missing on flash based websites )

You can see flash vids using the Youtube app, or can you ? ( supposedly the videos that the iTouch sees are actually .mov files ? ) , and this is how the MXTube app is able to download and save them to the iTouch.

Yes, the iPhone version of Facebook is very basic. It tries to minimize the amount of data on the website, making it easier to load and read on the device. It's a shame it's not built better, but hopefully they'll improve it as more people visit Facebook on their iPhone/iPod Touch.

FYI - There is no running version of Flash on the iPod Touch at this time. What you are seeing in the YouTube.app are streaming H.264 movie files, NOT Flash. If you watch Apple's event introducing the iPhone, Steve Jobs talks about how they convinced YouTube to convert a large number of their videos to streaming movie format rather than Flash. MxTube is downloading the H.264 files, not Flash.

As to the reasons why Flash isn't available, all you have to do is search this forum as you'll see this discussion time and again. I don't think anyone wants to rehash them yet again...

how do you write on a friends wall. surly this is a basic function and facebook 2.0 should be able to do this.

yeah, i noticed that problem too with the facebook app. Though it didn't bother me at first, because I could still go to iphone.facebook.com and do that, but unlike before, where I could reply to someone who has written on my wall simply buy pressing on the comment they wrote and it would take me to their wall, now, it seems like it won't let me do that, and I have to go and search for the friend, and then go write on the wall, this gets annoying, real fast. Is anyone else having this problem?

I've deleted the Facebook app because it's a piece of crap in favor of the web app. No wall posting? Ridiculous!

I've noticed that shortcoming, too. It's hard to believe they left out such an important feature, unless they're planning to phase out the Wall in the long run...
