Screen defaults to main everytime i touch it

The problem i was having with my ipod touch seems to have gotten worse over the last week. at first i could play a few songs then in the middle of one it would just go black for a second, then default to the main screen.

or it would happen when i would skip a song, or ffwd, etc. but the videos played fine.

this morning i was barely able to touch the screen to get to Songs and it was going black everytime and defaulting to the main menu.

same thing happened when i tried to play a video.

i really need help, does anyone know what's causing this or how i can fix it?

have you tried just shutting the touch down and restarting at. and if that doesn't work: have you tried restoring it via itunes?

i haven't tried that yet. i've been trying to avoid restoring the factory settings but i didn't know if anyone else was having this problem, or heard of it happening, or if it's just me.

i don't have anything special on it, i haven't messed with it at all or done anything with the codes. only added videos and music and it's doing this.

think i should just restore it?

Yes. Restore it. Its obviously a major firmware error, so it will in all likelihood desperately NEED a firmware restore.
