Hey guys.

I just plugged my 8Gb iPod Touch into my computer as per usual, and when it showed up on my iTunes, under capacity, my 6Gb of 'Music' and 'Videos' changed to 'Other'.

At first I just thought it was my computer being screwy or something, so I checked my iPod to see if my music and videos were still there. They were gone.

So now I have 6Gb of 'Other' on my iPod. -_-"

Has anyone had this problem? And would anyone know if my content is still on the iPod, and if so how to rescue it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Go into the iPod. Go to settings. Click "Erase all data and settings" and it will wipe this data. And then just resync.

It has happened a few times to me. Doesn't reoccur often at all.

Ohh I see. So does that mean that all of the content on my iPod is unrecoverable? Cause I don't have much of the content on my actual iTunes. I manually manage and grab stuff from other sources.

You can try a data recovery tool (i have never tried one) but I' not sure how your results will be if the iPod doesn't call the files music

This should be a lesson to those who use their iPod and delete the stuff off their hard drives. Its not a good idea.

An iPod touch is not as good as a standard backup as Apple don't support it at all.

Ohh, lame. I kinda learned the hard way then.. haha.

Ugh. I spose I'll try and find another way, and if not, wipe and begin searching for my music again. :P

Well, thanks for the help!

Yeah, I see hundreds on this site doing the exact same thing, and they always end up coming back and asking "How do i get files off my iPod?"

I always tell them "Don't use it like that, as it is not what it was designed for" but they won't listen. And then the come running back here after an issue turns up.

I could fix it on the classic, but the Touch is a very closed system sadly.

Since you're pulling things off different sources, I'd suggest you take it home after you do that and use a program like iGadget to pull it into your iTunes. That way you have the music in case something happens. I do this to keep my music synced between home and work. A few times a year I take my entire hard drive home and sync everything, but in the meantime I'll just put a new album I bought onto the iPod and back it up at work using iGadget.
