Now that the new Pwnage software has been released, bricking is now possible. You see Pwnage allows you to run custom firmware which can mess with the bootloader. If you disconnect your iPod touch while it is being "Pwned" it can mess up the iPod touch and make it unusable. Sad day for Apple...

Not really a sad day for Apple as this can easily be fixed with a firmware update. Besides, it is not like the iPod touch is getting bricked from normal use. People are doing stuff that they aren't supposed to be doing. As I said, Apple could easily fix this with a firmware update to not allow the application access to the bootloader (this would also probably require a iTunes update).
Either way, everything gets hacked nowadays so it is not that big of a deal. I remember that it was a big deal with the 3G iPod as they had to put it in an isolated sound cube to listen for the hard drive clicks. The iPod touch is more software driven which makes it better in the longer run but it also makes it a prime target for hackers. It took the RockBox/iPod Linux team over a year to hack the 3G iPod. So everything is eventually hacked.

Yup. Of course the early jailbreaks for the iPhone could brick them too, but now it's a lot less likely. I'd just give it time and stay with the tried and true jailbreaks for now -- iLiberty+ and ZiPhone.

any ipod touch, iphone can't be bricked by software tweak unless it has hardware problem.
It can
If the firmware is disabled to the point where recovery mode or DFU mode don't work then it can be bricked.
It just depends how damaged the firmware gets.
Would a software update from Apple change things enough for that to be the case? Very doubtful.

Sad day for Apple?
how can you put an responsibility on Apple for when a person does something of their own free will to their own device?

Exactly. Is it a sad day for Ford if I decide to put bleach into my gas tank? Or use ketchup in place of oil?

I was wondering this myself. Especially considering that "something" would be in violation of the terms and conditions of the warranty.

You mean you're NOT supposed to use ketchup...damn. That explains SO much.
My thought exactly, though. Don't pwn your pod and you're okay. Pwn your pod and brick it, sad day for YOU!
