I have a 2G iPod Shuffle 1 gig silver. Got it today and LOVE IT. I clipped it on inside my pocket while I did some stuff around the house and half an hour later remembered I had a new iPod :D It's as if it wasn't there. Also got some aluminum cases for it. This is going to be so awesome for the gym!! It fits 218 songs.

I love mine too. But it didnt always use to be this way. After I bought it, it gave me nothing but trouble and I used to hate it back then. After the many times I had to restore it, if the restore process finished correctly and I had to name the iPod again, I would always name it "POS" as in "Piece of -hit". hahaha.

But then a miracle happened that changed everything (I connected it to the USB port in the back of my PC instead of the front ones) and I love my Shuffle since then.

But anyway! Where did you find aluminum cases for a Shuffle? Can you provide a link so I can check them out?

Here they are. I paid more but it came with an extra sync cable (not much more).

Just search "ipod shuffle case" and browse for aluminum :D

Mine is already clad in aluminum. It was run over by a car and still works great. Only three tiny scratches on the front. I don't think you need to put more metal around your shuffle, but go ahead if you want to.

Oh, I see you are selling an ALUMINIUM SKIN CASE made of flexible, non-slip silicon. I stupidly thought you were selling an aluminium case while of course the ALUMINIUM refers to the Shuffle that the case fits.

GatorDeb

-I'm- not selling a case. Someone asked what kind of case I bought and I picked a random eBay auction.

Got my covers today. They are not silicone, I don't know if they are aluminum per se, but they are hard and feel the same as the body of the Shuffle. Definitely not just silicone like the description says, that's an error.

Oh, I see you are selling an ALUMINIUM SKIN CASE made of flexible, non-slip silicon. I stupidly thought you were selling an aluminium case while of course the ALUMINIUM refers to the Shuffle that the case fits.

The eBay add is misleading. The case the add is selling (or WAS selling, since it has since closed), is an ALUMINUM case, not a silicon case and certainly not a combination of aluminum and silicone. Its just a piece of aluminum that covers the Shuffle. And not even completely, cuz the back, top and bottom are uncovered.
The description on the add however, mentions the case is made from silicone. Which is not the case.

If you want full protection with a better look (at least in my book. I dont like the aluminum cases, which seem they could/would scratch the iPod themselves while putting them on, taking them off) go for the PowerSupport Silicone Jacket ( http://www.powersupportusa.com/products/ipod/shuffle2G_siljack.php ).

If you want to be able to change your Shuffles color tho, you would need an aluminum or plastic case.

OK. They look nice. Thanks for the clarification. I think I would have trouble accessing the controls with my fat fingers. I believe the metal Shuffle is indestructible, scratches on it are hard won and improve appearance. Nobody has a Shuffle that looks old and ragged. It doesn't happen. I hope you enjoy your covers, but others who read this thread should know Shuffle does not need protection.

Protection is not a MUST with the Shuffle as it is for other iPods, but if youre a perfectionist (like I claim to be at times), then you better get a case for those rare occasions when the Shuffle is put in a situation rough enough to scratch/dent it. (Like you said, scratches are hard won with the Shuffle, but they are very possible given the right circumstances).

My Shuffle has an ugly dent on the top corner of the aluminum casing because I dropped it really hard on a tile floor once. So yes, if I had a case on it at the time, it wouldnt have the dent. But if youre careful with it, then it doesnt really need too much protection.

LoL. It doesnt look that bad to me. I like the fact that it covers the whole Shuffle. Including the clip. I would get one of those if I could. Like I always say, to each his/her own.

I just bought one too, and I'm impressed with how much it holds. And how tiny and cute it is.

I've used a 5g video ipod for several years and have about 8000 files (per iTunes ).
I listen to a lot of podcasts and I like them during walking and exercise, because there's no beat to match.

What good strategies do you guys use for filling your shuffles?

For starters, I just made a playlist called Shuffle and filled it from that. But I've also thought about synching it from my laptop instead (where the iTunes library is small and my other iPod has never been).

There must be some good strategies out there. Please share your ideas.

eqblues, that's amazing that you could drop a shuffle hard enough to dent it, given the light weight and the durability of the aluminum casing. Hey, had you been using a skin, the skin might have gotten scuffed up. Maybe you should get a skin protector too.

Haha, just kidding, but my point is the Shuffle is not an expensive fragile thing that might become ugly or damaged by dropping it. I bet only your girlfriend gets close enough to even see that dent.

The only time I dropped an iPod really hard was a iPod photo, which had been dead for over two years. The impact started it working again and didn't cause a scratch!

I never use cases, I feel like they get in the way. I did put some film over the screens of my iPods that have screens.

As you say, to each his own. If you want one, fine, but I think a case on a shuffle will degrade the appearance, add bulk, and make the operation of the unit more difficult.

I bet your Shuffle even with a dent looks better than a Shuffle in a rubber prophylactic, don't worry about it. The Shuffle is a little too cute to start with. You can't make it look ugly by dropping it. You can only make it ugly by putting something ugly on it. Consider the alloy casing to have done it's job of protecting the electronics.

nanjowood,My syncing strategy relies on a large library, so doesn't really speak to your question, but you might get some ideas from it.

I am a dedicated believer in the philosophy of randomness that I think is the reason for the Shuffle. I don't want to know what's on my Shuffle and I want it to be different every day. But I have it set up so I hear higher rated songs more often.

I load my Shuffle with iTunes from a smart playlist using autofill. The conditions of the playlist is that the song is in one of several other playlists.

#5) 100 least often played songs with a) Rating is ***** and b) last played is not in the last month.

#4) 200 least often played songs with a) Rating is **** and b) last played is not in the last 2 months.

#3) 600 songs that have not been played in the last six months (I assign every song with a rating of *** until I get around to changing it).

#2) (this one is a little goofy) the 4 least often played songs with a) Rating of ** and b) has not been played in the last two years. A song that has been unfairly rated at ** gets the possibility of being heard again after two years in exile.

#1) 40 songs selected randomly that have been added in the last week and playcount = 0

I have only rated about 1/4 of my songs. I rate the songs after I hear them.

You can select how random you want the shuffling. I chose somewhat less random, so when I sync, I get some (randomly chosen) artists with several songs in the daily mix. Usually less than six songs per artists, so the "featured" artists are each heard maybe once every couple hours of listening, but the recurrences add some interest, and actually make each day's program different. Completely random can feel more the same than a somewhat less random program. All colors together make white.

Thanks for sharing your strategy, Rod.
I wasn't aware of some of those smart playlist options, like played least often.
I look forward to experimenting along those lines.

My system is simple, I make a smart play list with songs rated greater than 3 then autofill it with that playlist.

If I'm feeling picky that day I just make a new playlist...course it makes it more time consuming with the 2GB model.

Rod - this is awesome. I have some crazy play lists too, but you actually punish your songs for not being good enough!

I use my 1gb Ipod Shuffle (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&node=home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_shuffle&sf=wHF2F2PHCCCX72KDY) when I go jogging and it's great. For other applications I need my 4gb Nano (http://theelectronicgeek.com/node/31).

Also, you can't dock the Shuffle when you have the case on. It also trap moisture in between the Shuffle and the case when you are sweating and working out.

Yes but the shuffle automatically fits on as many as it can. So it doesn't really matter.

I have 2 shuffles-one a 512MB first gen and the second is a 1GB blue shuffle.

Enjoying the blue one a lot more because of the aluminium body-more durable and less likely to show marks.

I have a white 512MB and a gray 1GB. I like the new one better because of the size and the clip. I clipped it to the part of my headphones that bridges the two speakers and neatly wrapped the wire around that same part. Easy to put on, take off, no wire to snag. I use the kind of headphones that have a band that goes behind your neck (Philips brand, cost around $20) . Not a set-up for the true audiophile, but sounds great to me. I really like it!
