I would like to buy an Iphone soon. If I buy an Iphone now will it work when they switch to 3G? Is the network switch going to be a simple software upgrade or will it require new hardware?

Even if they announced a 3G iPhone tomorrow (which they won't) it wouldn't be available for quite some time. The way I look at it is you can keep on waiting for what will probably be a long time or make an investment now. I mean the phone will probably be worth at the VERY least half its value when the 3G comes out anyway. Take the plunge and don't hang around waiting for the next best thing as technology is always coming out with something new.

I say get it and take my thoughts on it. I just got an iPhone, 8gb via the AT&T Refurb 249.99 deal. It is a beautiful phone, just as new! But I got it not only for price but wanted the phone. I have an AT&T number so I just used my existing line. Anyway, once a new iPhone comes out, I will buy it. The next thing I do is, unlock and sell my old 8gb to someone who doesn't want to use AT&T and probably will get a good penny due to unlocking the phone and jailbreaking too, so in the end, try doing that, I am sure a 250-300 spot for a nice 8gb unlocked and jailbroken would be right.

I agree with touchmyipod. I was going to wait and then decided to go ahead and get the current one and will sell when a new version comes out. I really just wanted to be onboard when the new SDK comes out. It looks pretty exciting.

I don't believe that an upgrade to 3G wireless will be available for existing iPhones when they DO go to 3G.

Rumors are flying (and of course, they are ONLY rumors) that the next gen iPhone COULD be out as early as June.

Jobs has stated publicly that a 3G capable iPhone would be released in 2008.

I am willing to wait until the 3G comes out.

I had planned on waiting, but when I saw that AT&T was selling refurbs for $249, I snagged one. :)

It won't be available. The phone has been opened up and the hardware does not exist.

How are the refurbished iPhones?

Are they like new?

Or are they noticably used?

Also, do you need to get a new contract to get one?

My refurb is 110% awesome, just like new.

No, no use signs at all, but some of those who bought said, some minor scrath on th echrome, but emphasis on minor...

No, I didnt need a contract, in fact it was activated(all except cellular use) when I opened it, I hooked into my wifi and everything, one could go to at&t and get a 8gb iphone for less than a touch...I got mine online at att website however...

Don't forget to add $70+ for replacement housing 'coz by that time, u WILL have some scratches.

I tend to be on the delicate side with electronics. The phone has had a case and screen guard since minute one. I have never dropped an iPod(knock on wood), nor have I dropped or broken any electronic I own, the only one being a Roomba vaccuum I stepped on in the dark. I am confident it will be in A- condition by the time I upgrade, but you are correct with scratches, these things cant take a beating! :)
