I received my 'new' refurbed 8GB iPhone today, and after activation I see that I barely get service...and at most will get 3 bars, but that's for a short time before it goes back to either 1 or no service at all. My current phone is a Treo 680, and that gets 3 to 4 bars of service without any problems.

I've read that the iPhone may not be the greatest phone for reception, but I have a hard time believing it could be this bad. Could there be something wrong with my phone? Any ideas on setting changes or anything I can do to verify this? (The phone has the latest 1.1.4 software).

Got an iPhone but returned it after 10 days due to no service or dropped calls in my home. Had to go back to my Razr -- with AT&T -- for decent service. Dam, wanted to keep the iPhone but . . .

I would have kept it.

I have no issues with mine. You might try calling Apple or returning it. I think the refurbs come with a 90 day warranty.

I drove to the Apple store on Saturday, and one of the guys swapped out my SIM into a test phone they had - in the test phone I was getting maximum reception, but in my phone I was getting 2 - 3 bars max.

I spoke with AT&T today, and they are sending me a new (refurbed) iPhone to exchange.

Right. Who cares about calls, all everybody need is the cool look, touch, and all those applications!

I had a similar problem but turns out it was the sim card. AT&T swapped it and now I have great service.

I have the same amount of bars that I did with my Razr. The iphone actually sounds clearer (could be my razr was older and beat up).

I am getting my iPhone from this guy related to this girl at my school. If this happens to me I get no apple warranty or anything right?
