View Full Version : Is plastic film necessary for iPhone

I know friends who've applied plastic films on the screens of their iphones and ipod touches (ie. invisible shield). I was wondering if that was necessary since I was told that the touch screens on those two are very scratch resistant.
Would just a case such as the Agent 18 Eco Shield be enough to protect the iPhone?

It's really a case of personal preference. I have the PowerSupport Anti Glare screen protector on my iPhone and I love it. No more fingerprints. Yes, the touch screen is pretty scratch resistant, but why risk it?
I prefer not to have a case on my iPhone because I like the slim design and don't want anything to make it bulkier. But the edges are a bit slippery and I've had it slip out of my hands a few times.

Take a look at this:

It's a pretty entertaining video and really tells the resilience of the phone. I have a film on mine as well as a case but I know others who don't and haven't had a problem. The way I figure it, you pay 400 bucks for a phone so why wouldn't you want to protect your investment? I'm not knowledgeable about a lot of other cases but I love my iSkin Revo. It's a little bulky on the edges but it's a really nice design. I'd recommend getting it in black though.

The screen is scratch "resistant", not scratch proof. I've always been the person that has stuff happen to things thats not supposed to happen. The screen isn't made of diamond or crystal so the possibility of a scratch is there. I work with a guy that has small scratches on his screen from the dust that was in his pocket. I have the agent 18 Eco case and a fi for the screen. The case adds no extra bulk and fits very snug on the phone. Why not spend at least $15 on a screen protector for a $400 phone.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. My wife and I don't use a screen protector on our iPhones. IMO that gorgeous glass touch screen looks and feels too good to cover up with a plastic film (would make it feel like a Pocket PC to me - uck!). We both have Sena ultra-slim pouches to slide the iPhone into when putting it into a pocket or purse (just to keep keys or what not from scratching up against it), but we always use the iPhone naked. I think it just feels so good in the hand, I'd hate to put a case on it. It could use a bit of a rubberized grip around the edges though as it can be a bit slippery.
Of course I'm the type who's fairly careful with my toys. If you're clumsy, careless, or simply forgetful, I'd get a screen protector just in case.
It's definitely the most scratch and ding resistant iPod I've owned, but it's by no means scratch-proof or otherwise invulnerable.

Agreed. I would say its a smart option to have but I would in no way call it necessary. I guess it is just like a cover for your pda or a "bra" for your car. haha :P

I have the INCASE on my iPhone which fits really great on the phone. It doesnt have any screen protector, it just protects everything but the screen. So far, I have no complains other than having to clean off my finger prints residue that I leave on the iPhone screen.
I'm thinking about getting the invisible shield just so I dont have to wipe any fingerprints off.
But really, other than finger prints, there's no need to get a screen protection on the iPhone as the screen layer is made from glass which barely scratches. It does break though. :(
I think Ima get the indivisible shield. The only thing stopping me right now from getting it is because you need to use this water like spray and spray it on the screen and such. Im afraid that might damage the iPhone or what not.

Get the power support anti-glare film, it greatly reduces fingerprint and smudges, makes the iphone easier to see in a lot of condition IMO, and I like the way it feels better because its like your fingers glide across it easier. Its really easy to put on also.

I've had my iPhone for about 4 months and have neither screen protector or case. I keep my phone in my pocket I usually have my loose change in. Also as mentioned the naked iPhone can be a bit slippery so mine has taken the odd tumble every now and then. It's always been fine for me no scratches apart from on the titanium on the back. The screen looks as good as it did brand new.
Oh and as for fingerprints - I just wipe em off with my shirt or whatever. Seems to do the trick.

Ye, I usually send my breath to the screen then wipe it off to get rid of the smudges

I'm also using PowerSupport Anti-Glare and i really love it. I'm no concerned at all with the screen and, as said before by Antihero17, the fingers slides more easily and smoothly than without the protection. The screen looks awesome too, highly recommended ...
