Hi,

I have recently exchanged my iPhone because of a fault. When I tried to access one of The Cloud's wireless networks I received a message to say my number was already registered with a different device.

O2 have arranged a MAC address reset to resolve this issue, however I'm curious to know exactly what this does. Does it actually change the phone's wifi card MAC address, or simply reset The Cloud's registration to allow me to register my new handset? As far as I'm aware there is no way to change a hardware MAC address, although it is possible to override it in software for some operating systems.

TIA,

Ed.

MAC "can" be changed (locally, to your iphone's network adapter) but is not usually done. My guess is, reset registration.
