View Full Version : Using the CHEAP ($1) usb +/or wall mount power cords.
I got a few cheapos for the office. 1st time I used it, it basically locked up my touch. I had to play around with it for a while, just to make it turn off (hard off). This is using the cheapo usb (direct into pc).
Anyone else have bad experiences, or good ones... using the cheapos?

From what I have read and seen discussed, get a good charger, as some chargers have fried people's iPhone and their iPod Touch whether it be 8 or 32gb.
I use an USB power adapter(a cheap one dollar one you speak of) hooked into an OEM Apple dock. Have had no problems, I also chagre via my iHome overnight also!

i too used a cheapo that i bought on ebay ($5) it locked my 8 gb touch up too.
i never thought anything about the lock-ups i was getting, so i kept using it.
all in all it fried my battery, i went to the apple store to get a whole new ipod touch "free"
the guy at the apple store says this for the batteries sake.....
-only use a charger that is made for a "touch" even if its a non apple brand thats ok.
- never have your ipod (any ipod) plugged into your computers usb while the computer is starting up or shutting down
- never have your ipod (any ipod) plugged into your car lighter while the car is being started
- never charge your ipod (any ipod) in your car unless the car is at normal running temp (i live in wisconsin)
another thing i told the apple employee is that my friend has an official apple charger from 2 years ago (before the touch was released) ,, he told me NOT to use that with my touch because it wasnt rated for the touch.

Don't EVER sell yourself short on chargers they aren't a joking matter when it comes to iPods..I've seen plenty of horror stories of it frying/killing/freezing iPods on this site to know better.
Even though some of those cheapies work just fine its not worth it to ruin a $400 product because you wanted to save $10 originally.
I only use apple's chargers.
