only question is, which one?
i'd need more space and i'd get a refurb one.

touch-229?
classic-209?

i realize the touch is flash based and easier to use therefore everywhere,(exercising, around town, at school) but the classic holds a lot more which would be useful for my upcoming new york trip...so which one should i get?

Depends what you want.

Smaller - Touch
Batter Life - Classic (up to 43 hours)
Applications (hopefully more to come) - Touch
Flash player, don't have to worry about drops as much - Touch
WiFi - Touch

Also, a jailbroken iPod Touch is amazing.

well i just want more capacity and good battery life for my player.
plus i'm worried about the glass screen for the touch, wondering how much it could take without breaking. also i'm not 100% keen on the touchs controls...

Classic with a Shuffle for activities when you can't use your HD Based iPod.

The tempered glass on the iPod Touch is stronger than the iPod Classic/Nano screens. So really shouldn't be a issue.

Your controller issue is probably going to be the biggest factor, its actually quite a hastle [to me anyway] to have to pull the thing out anytime I want to adjust volume or change songs.

yeah that is my pet peeve of the touch...unfortunatly its only gonna be 8gigs...but that should be enough, as i only had 4 with the nano right?
i'm just afraid of dropping the darn ipod.
so the touch would be better?
maybe?

FYI - for all those that hate to try to change the track or volume since you have to see the screen, there is a new jailbreak app you may want to look at. Its called PocketTouch. It basically turns the screen black and dimmed all the way down but still on. You can then use gestures to change tracks (swipe left or right) change volume (swipe up or down) and pause/play tracks (tap the screen). It uses battery a little faster but its a great app to have when you dont want to take your iPod Touch out of your pocket.

i'm just looking for a more capacious video playing ipod.

Its a hard call. I tore my hair out going back and forth between an iPod Classic and an iPod Touch when they were announced. Eventually, I went with the iPod Touch simply because I wanted the wireless access. I already had a wireless router, and I liked the ability to hop on the net when I wasn't in front of my computers or when they were off. I defiintely don't have my entire music collection on my iPod Touch at any one time, nor my movies. But that's not a big deal for me. I've got enough on there that I don't have to think about what I want to add/change for a month at a time... That's good enough for me...

The iPod Classic is just a music/video player. The iPod Touch is more... Your mileage may vary. No penalty for early withdrawal. Yadda yadda yadda. If you've heard some users say that some places (Costco?) have a long return policy (I think 60-90 days) with no fees and no question returns. If you have one near you, that'd be my option -- pick one up and see if it works for you. If not, return it for the Classic.

well i wanted to do that...
except my family goes to sam's club instead.
do they do the same policy?
also would you recomend jailbreaking?
also what capactiy is your touch?

No idea about Sam's Club's policy. Maybe someone here knows.

I'm a big fan of jailbreaking myself - I wasn't initially. I thought everything was just fine using web-apps. Then I took the plunge and can't imagine not having all these additional apps. If you want to get an idea of some of the apps already available, I put together a list here the other day of the apps I'm using along with videos for many of the apps (not my vids) - http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=223847

And I'm running a 16GB iPod Touch. Right now I have about 2000 songs (that's deceptive since most are actually 1 hour long programs), a handful of short YouTube videos (about 10), 500MB of apps and still have 2GB free. It's a lot better than my first gen iPod shuffle :D

haha yeah of course!
i really want a touch, but i want a big ipod to hold my music...you know?
cause i know i wouldn't be able to afford a 16gb one...400 bucks is a lot to throw down after all.

Yeah, I know - I was saving up for 2 years to pick one up... :)

Nope - I knew I wanted the latest iPod, heard rumors 6 months in advance and held off on purchasing a new iPod (now classic) until the announcement and then picked up an iPod Touch... Patience is a virtue, grasshopper :D

hey! i'm almost 18! and i beleive i'm a human last time the docter checked...

If you get a job you could buy your iPod in one or two paychecks instead of waiting for birthday/Christmas/free money.

well i know that.
its not like i'm stuck up or anything, i do have morals.
but people suck and many people in SoCal don't want to hire teens, don't know why they wouldn't...and i'm stuck w/o job and w/o money. bleh.
