There was a good thread recently in which people listed apps they hoped would show up on the Touch. I'm hoping that Apple enhances (and fixes) the current apps first (don't get me wrong -- I think the Touch is one of the greatest devices made).

Here's my list of enhancements/fixes, roughly in descending order of importance. What would you add? What have I missed, got wrong, been stupid about? (I have sent an expanded version of this to Apple's Touch feedback squad.)

1. iTunes: Allow user to set sync options for iPod before mounting iPod.
2. Mail: Actually _sync_ with MacMail (currently syncs just account information).
3. Mail: Sync ToDo’s!
4. Notes: Sync NOTES!
5. General: Add text selection controls and a clipboard.
6. General: Home page weather icon should display live outdoor temperature.
7. Mail: Add an “Accounts” icon at the bottom of all of the Mail screens.
8. Mail: Add “Mark all as read” button to Mail accounts.
9. Mail: Add “Mark as read” _somewhere_. The Preview list would be a good place.
10. Mail: Make multiple-account mail reading easier. I currently have to make five taps to change from one account to another.
11. Music: CoverFlow, volume control, modality. (CoverFlow changes the Music modality to Album. This is odd. And it doesn't have a volume control I can find.)
12. Notes: Allow Notes to be Landscape-oriented. (The landscape-oriented keyboard is significantly easier to use.)
13. Podcasts: Playing video podcasts doesn’t work via “Music>Podcasts”.
14. WiFi: iTouch hangs, hard, until I reboot my router, than it comes back to life.
15. Calculator: A scrollable tape would be a fantastic and natural addition to the Calculator.
16. General: Allow re-naming of default Home Screen icons. (I want to change “Music” to “Audio”).
17. Mail: Add “Updated _date/time_” status bar to bottom of Accounts list screen.
18. Music: Add scrubber bar to Music>List_View (and remove the silly ratings strip).
19. Podcasts: For long podcasts (1 hr) the scrubber bar is frustratingly inexact.

Here's what I'd change about the Touch:

Re-organize the Video section like the Music section. There should be buttons along the bottom for each type of video (movies, tv shows, music videos, etc).
Why is the video section just one long list? It's like the UI was designed by a different group.

Video Playlist support
The ability play multiple video podcasts sequentially
Scrolling Titles / labels
Music controls accessible from coverflow
Brightness control accessible while playing video.
Video name / title displayed in the info overlay
Remember positions within lists.
The ability to switch between portrait and landscape modes when the keyboard is displayed
More apps that support landscape mode
The ability to turn off the display by pressing and holding the home button.
When editing an On-The-Go playlist the alpha scroll bar is only displayed on the Artists list. Why is it missing from all the other lists?
The ability to save and name the On-The-Go playlist.

Here's what I'd change about the Touch:

The ability to turn off the display by pressing and holding the home button.

Pressing and holding the home button has already been assigned to closing a crashed program. This prevents users from having to force-power off their iPod if it happens. It can also be used to completely close out of regularly running programs to save system memory and help your iPod run smoother. However, the delay time is 5 seconds.

There should be no reason to "completely close out of regularly running programs" -- very very few applications (only Music & Safari as far as I know) support suspend when you hit the home button. All others quit.

You know how when you hit the status bar on top while in safari, how it will take you to the top of the page? I think there should be one like that at the bottom. Or at least some sort of side bar.

Also, it would be really awesome if they added the option to add a network printer option and print button so that you can print over a network.

Printing functionality is easier said then done. In order to get the OS to fit in the small firmware partition and small memory footprint, they removed all the unnecessary frameworks, including the printing framework.
