No and no. There is no "disk mode" for the Touch, which means you are limited to media that iTunes stores in its library, and the Touch won't run flash movies (Jobs states that performance is too poor for Apple to implement it at present).

The iPod touch is not compatible with flash, this might change with the SDK but no one really knows. Flash consumes quite a bit of processor power. Just to give you an idea, I have a pocket PC which gets about 3.5 hours of battery life while browsing the internet. It uses a portable version of Internet Explorer running Flash. I get about 1 hour of battery life when browsing flash heavy websites. I don't know if Apple will ever allow for flash to come out on the iPod touch as I am sure their customer support lines will be filled with "Why is my iPod touch only getting 1 hour of battery life?"

You cannot currently download applications. The SDK has been released so you can expect applications to hit the iTunes Store whenever firmware 2.0 comes out (I think it is coming out in June). You can jailbreak your iPod and then download applications for free but that is about it.

Well, there are two options right now - http://ipod.videohamster.com which is supposed to convert video from YouTube and MySpace on the fly for viewing (and they want to do other sites as well. There's also something called iTransmorgify which requires a jailbreak to use. It's too bad Apple can't setup a page like Videohamster themselves which automatically converts Flash video on the fly to H.264 for streaming to an iPod Touch.

Also (again apologies to the non-jailbreak crowd), there are Safari plugins that download music and content directly to the iPod Touch (jailbreak required obviously). There's also a new jailbreak app called MxTube which allows you to download H.264 videos directly off YouTube for to your iPod Touch for viewing offline.

omg, Derek, you made my day (again haha). Thanks a lot for the videohamster thing...it worked great. I had tried itransmogrify before but it sucked...this is awesome!

I use and really like Mxtube. What are those safari plug ins exactly? Id really like to be able to dl videos besides just youtube ones to my iPod.

thanks sooo much
