Just got my new 16gb iPhone last night along with the new Incase Slider case and Shure SE210 headphones & SHure iPhone mic.

But I am both really excited about it & regretting at the same time.

You see I have been trying to use my ancient 1st generation RAZR until a 3G iPhone comes out. Especially since I have this nagging feeling that its just around the corner. But yesterday my RAZR decided enough was enough and decided to call it quits.

So my only other option was to pay $50 or so to get a cheapy replacement until a 3G iphone comes out, but none of ATT's offerings looked as slick as the old brushed metal black RAZR. They where all plasticy and bulky and had a bunch of features that where just useless for me... and getting one of the smartphones would just be more of a headache trying to get it to sync with my mac.

Well deep down inside I still lusted after the iPhone especially after my girlfriend "purposely" lost her SLVR the day the first iPhone came out so as to give her self an excuse to dump serious cash into the new iPhone.

So in the wake of my old RAZR, I have convinced myself that the 16gb will do for now.

It looks slick in its Incase Slider... makes it look like a fashion model where as my girlfriend's Griffin case made of Cork looks like its ready to save the planet... in a really cool eco sort of way.

And I can't wait till some useful programs come out of SDK, especially medical programs then I can get rid of my PDA permanently.

But I am still in shock with how much I spent in one day: 16gb iPhone+ Incase Slider + Shure SE210 + Shure Music Phone Adapter...

It's gonna hurt even more when the 3G comes out this year.

Oh well... at least if and when that happens I can ebay it.:) :( :D  :) :D

I hear ya, dude. My Sprint contract is up in six weeks, and I'm dying to get an iPhone. I dunno if I can wait until June to see if a 3G model is released. I honestly don't think it will happen until Sept. at the earliest.

I had a Samsung Blackjack with 3G. I think 3G is overhyped, browsing was not that much faster than the Edge service.

I'm extremely happy with my iphone. Wifi on the iphone is great.

I used to have the Sony Ericsson k800i and the browsing speeds of that I'm sure were slower then on EDGE. The only problem I have is when I lose EDGE and have to revert to normal GPRS. The iPhone is a godsend by comparisson.

Don't bank on the iPhone lasting an entire 24 hour call if you access it frequently for med info once ePocrates comes out for it. I take my iPhone with me when I'm on call and if you have Wi-Fi on, it barely lasts 24 hours. If you turn Wi-Fi off, it'll have about 1/3 battery left. This is without using it at all during the 24+ hour period. If you access it frequently for info, listen to music, watch a movie, make a call or two, even with wi-fi off, it's not going to come close to getting you through 24 hours. I wouldn't dare leave it anywhere either to recharge. I left my jawbone in the call room and someone took it home with them.

All right, I thought I'd chime in on this.

I just recently got a 16GB iPhone too. Exchange support, and awesome 3rd party development platform were the tipping point for me. I was on Verizon, and I was using their EVDO service to browse the internet. I have used and tested a few EVDO cards, as well as PDA's that use it as well. The general truth of the matter is, is no matter what speed you have, the latency on whatever you use is whats going to make things seem to go slowly. There are times, when I'm on Edge, where it feels almost as fast as my wifi at home. There are times where it seems about the same speed as a ISDN line. The problem overall is, in both Edge, and EVDO is latency. Or the time it takes for you to send a request, and that request to be responded to. The ping on my iphone at last check was about 550-600. This is substantially higher then what you'd get at home with wifi. Wifi can go anywhere from the high 90's in absolute peak conditions, to around the 200's. For most day to day usage, Edge seems faster then most EVDO based phones I've used. This is a result of the processing power in the iPhone compared to the dinky watch processor Motorola Q's that crash if you give them a funny look (I've bought, used, and returned both models due to quality issues).

I can go on for hours on this stuff, but here is some general food for thought. Most people use their phones as a messaging device. Edge works excellently for this. They use it to surf the web, which, in my experience isn't ideal, but is far from torment. They probably want to use some sort of AIM or Twitter App (don't start anything about background processes, this isn't the point). Edge works well for just about all these things. The only thing I personally wouldn't recommend right now is Youtube over Edge. That has been painful. I would also encourage you to think about the trade offs of 3G as well, at least of last checking. My iPhone lasts me the full day of usage, whether it be listening to music, checking my email, surfing the web, and of course talking. My Motorola Q's had about an hour and a half battery life.

OK after spending almost a week with my new 16gb iPhone... I just absolutely love it!!!

First of all, the battery seems to last longer than my girlfriend's 8gb model, but maybe its because hers is pretty old and the battery is wearing down... but it lasts the whole day & night with regular use of the iPod & email & occasional web searches.

On my home wi-fi network, internet and email is pretty quick.

For the first time ever, I have a smart phone that effortlessly syncs all my calender dates, 2 work email accounts, and 1 personal email account across my computer, iPhone, and .Mac internet acct. This makes the iPhone so convenient as far as keeping up to date on my emails, but at the same time makes it easier for people to reach me when I don't want to be reached.

Although my iPod is 30gb, the 16gb on the iPhone is more than enough... I have so many songs on my iPod that I don't know what I want to listen too... on the iPhone I just have to pick what I want before I sync then its more than enough

I tried the Shure SE210 headphones with Shure phone adapter and I like how it has much more bass than my old Ety ER6i's and was much more comfortable to place into the ear whereas the Ety's you have to shove way into the ear. But I didn't like that the mids and highs where kinda muddied and one dimensional with the Shures as compared to my Etymotics... maybe I should have let them burn in a little... but the Shures + the adapter made it kinda cumbersome. I could also send my Ety ER6i + iPhone buds to get modded, but I was also ready for something different after having the ER6i's for years.

So last night I picked up Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 4vi's and I really like them. Sound signature is similar to the ER6i's, but with more bass... they should sound better after a week of use. More importantly, the simplified design of the 4vi's are much nicer than the Shures with the mic and button in the perfect location. Just so much nicer not to have to take headphones off to answer calls.

Lastly over the weekend I changed out my old Alpine Headunit with the old iPod adapter for a new IDA-X100. Although it lacked the advanced sound processing of my old headunit such as DSP, crossovers, time correction... the ease of use with the iPod/ iPhone more than makes up for it. Besides Alpine will soon have an addon that automatically calibrates depending on the cars acoustics. Even without it, I am able to tweek it so it does sound pretty close to what I had. The menu shows up very similar to what you would find on an iPod, shows album art, and what is a nice surprise is that the iPhone will pause the song when I get a call over my Bluetooth speaker phone then resume playing when I am done!!! It still lets me access the different functions on the phone as well such as email, maps to show me traffic, and although I wouldn't recommend it while driving safari, youtube, and movies with the audio outputting through my car speakers.

In fact I even noticed this same functionality with my girlfriend's iPhone months ago while on a roadtrip in her car with an afterket iPod adapter (that we bought years before the iPhone came out) directly wired to her OEM nav system.

So after SDK comes out with software I can actually use for my line of work... this would be the perfect handeld device.

All in all, I just love this thing!!!

I scored a refurbished 8 gigger from AT&T for $249 this morning. It'll hold me over until a 3 model comes out. :)

I saw that too.... ATT selling refurbed iPhones... if that announcement dropped last week I might have been first in line, on the other hand I needed a new phone right away and would not have been able to wait for the 8gb to ship to me.

oh well

How's the Slider case? I've read great reviews on it. It's probably the one I'm gonna get. :)

How's the Slider case? I've read great reviews on it. It's probably the one I'm gonna get. :)

Well so far I really like it!!! After using various different cases with different iPods, this is probably my favorite kind.

My girlfriend had one of those rubbery Incase ones, that got completely stretched out after 1-2 months.

Then she went caseless for awhile, and her iphone held up really good with hardly a scratch.

But she kept occasionally dropping her phone, so I ended up getting her a Griffin Cork case... that just looked really cool and fit the phone very nicely.

In comparison, the Incase Slider makes the iPhone look really sleek and stylish. Hardly adds any size to the phone itself. It makes the phone very easy to slip in and out of a pocket vs a leather or silicone case which gets stuck in your pocket. I used to sport my other iPods on my hip or outside pocket, but now I prefer to have my iPhone be in my pocket.

Although fingerprints show up on the Slider, it seems to hold up really well and have not noticed any scratches on it.

Since the iPod has a glass screen, there isn't really much need for a screen protector either... too bad its not sapphire crystal like my watch, but the glass is still pretty hard to scratch up... so no need for a screen protector. In fact the Griffin screen protector on my girlfriend's iPhone is starting to get annoying with all its scratches.

I use my iPhone at work with a Logitech speaker, and when I dock it in there, I have to take the bottom of the Slider off which I figure after awhile it will make the bottom of the Slider loose. But by then there might be another neat case to try.

Also the sleek exterior of the slider makes it kinda slippery in your hands.

Kinda wish they added ridges to the back... or make a slider version of their original rubber case.

Also some graphic art of some sort would look really cool on the case. One could probably paint whatever design they want onto the case then cover it with a clear coat.

Other than that, this is probably one of my favorite iPod/ iPhone cases with my girlfriend's Griffin Cork case being a close second and the 3m clear like material on my iPod being a close 3rd. Much better I think than a leather case or rubber/ silicone case.

I have the slider case. The white incase slider? Its pretty sick! The only thing I wish was it came in black. But white was the only color I saw at the Apple Store.

From what I've read, the black one is a fingerprint magnet. :(

Besides, it will match my glossy white MacBook, Samsung HDTV, Apple AirPort Extreme, Apple Mighty Mouse, and Sennheiser headphones. :D

Good thing they didn't have the black one available then.

I do like the White one, but it just doesn't look like an iPhone now :(

They sell a black glossy, and a black matte one as well on Incase website. I have the white one, and I'm expecting the black matte one to be in today.
