Hi new member here.. :)

I have a question hopefully someone can help.

Can a mains charger from a iPod mini be used for an iPod touch or do I have to purchase a new one.
The mains charger model is A1070 and the AC input is 0.4A max

It should work just fine. I have a charger from the 1G mini and have been using it with my 5G iPod, and I imagine the touch uses the same voltages. It uses the same connector anyway.

Yup. I use the good ol' brick charger. It seems to be working fine. Before using it, I researched chargers and battery compatibility (don't want an expensive paperweight)

I also emailed info@theipodbatteryunplugged.com and asked if the brick brick was compatible. They said no, but I found a graph in the darkest recesses of the Apple website (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60971) which said (very implicitly) that the brick is fine with the iPod Touchy Feely.

i.e 1. iPod Touch is charge-able by FireWire.
2. A1070 charger outputs the same current and the same voltage drop as a regular FireWire port.

Hence the A1070 is compatible with the new Touchy Feely.
