I have been reading this forum for over an hour looking for anyone with similar problems as mine with my WIFI. I have a 32gb Ipod Touch with 1.1.4 running on it. I can connect to my wireless router (Netgear WNR834B) just fine using WPA2 encryption and no MAC filtering. When I am first connected the thing works beautifully. Although after about 2 min of surfing I will click something in safari or mail that requests information from the internet and it will just sit there and spin its wheels not doing anything. This goes on for about 30sec-1minute and it finally figures out what is up and continues. This happens constantly. I have tried to update my router firmware and there isn't a newer one. My laptop runs perfectly without hiccup. I have went into my router and disabled anything dealing with advanced networking that may be causing problems like WMM support and frame burst. I am unable to find anything else to disable. I already use OpenDNS as my DNS provider that is assigned in my router. I also have any address below 192.168.1.100 as a static so my ipod is 192.168.1.55 and like I said it works perfectly for a couple of minutes then it craps itself and then it comes back and this is a vicious cycle. Let me know if there is anything else that I could try... I am currently finishing my masters in computer science and I work part time with the geek squad at best buy so I am familiar with what I am doing, but it seems to be a POS router from netgear that is causing the problems with apple products. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
pattont

I have a similarly weird issue. I turn on Wifi and it works fine for a while and will show 100% signal on the signal bars in the top corner but then after a while it will drop down to 3 bars and then even 1 bar and become useless.

To give you an idea of my RF situation, I'm sitting with my laptop here I am showing 70% signal an 9% noise on iStumbler from my Linksys router 30 feet away through 2 wood/plaster walls. In addition my portable phones are 5.4 GHz not 2.4 GHz.

Turning the wifi off and back on seems to help as does shutting down the ipod and turning it back on again.

The device is running 1.1.4, is not jailbroken and about a week old.

I'm guessing it may be a power managment issue whereby the PM system is reducing the RF signal power from the device in order to try and save energy.
