i recently made the mistake of puting a password on my ipod touch and of course forgeting it the next day. the only way i could think of getting it back to its default settings was to restore it. first i tried the normal restoring on itunes and after downloading the update and restoring it a message appeared saying that an unknown error accured and that it could not restore my ipod. then i tried to manually restore it and i got the same results and now it only shows the connect to itunes sign on the ipod. any ideas? (note: after the restoring and updating did not work i tried just updating it without the restoring, might have nothing to do with it but just a note.)

also im not so good with computers so any directions should be legible to a cave man. thanks.

Perhaps return to the store you bought from (or apple) and ask for a replacement.

I think you need to put the iPod touch in recovery mode first. You can search the forums for this as I know I have posted the instructions a couple of times and so have other people. Put the iPod in recovery mode then restore it. If that doesn't work then your iPod is busted and you need to either take it back to the store you purchased it at (if applicable) or contact Apple as all iPods have 1 year warranties.

Yeh, but it has the connect to itunes symbol which is recovery mode anyway, so its busted.

Well, you might want to try some of Apple's suggestions -- like restarting your computer, fully uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes, etc.
