Is there a way to download songs again on itunes

I believe you can contact Apple Support via iTunes and they'll let you redownload (some times at least).

However, they are very clear that you should backup your music...

Yes, as a rule Apple will provide this as a courtesy service once (although they're not obligated to do even that). We've had many reports of people being turned down on the second time based on already having made a request in the past.

I just sent itunes customer service an e-mail if they can issue me one free credit. We shall see.
