So I decided to upgrade my ipod touch to the new version 1.1.4. It downloaded successfully but when I went to install it, it started extracting and backing up files like it is suppose to be at the end it said can not upgrade to 1.1.4 because of an unknown error 1602 has occurred. Has anyone seen this yet and if so how do I get upgraded to 1.1.4 ? Thanks

I have the same unkown error 1602. My situation is exactly like yours. I called up apple and they said that I should uninstall all apple related products on my computer and install them again. The funny thing is that the person that I talked to didn't even know that the 1.1.4 came out. So basically she didn't know how to fix the problem. I'm still on 1.1.3.

People have been having these issues for a while - doesn't have to do with 1.1.4.

ok I finally got it fixed, here is what I did
I ejected my ipod
closed out of itunes
rebooted my computer
once the pc came back up plugged the ipod back in itunes came up
went to the device page and it said available update so I clicked on update
the update went through successfully this time
I think it had to do with me updating itunes earlier in the day to the new itunes version and not rebooting my machine. Little did I know there would be a ipod version (1.1.4) available until I read the forum because I didn't plug my ipod in for a few days. I would say if you are having this issue follow the steps above because I am now on 1.1.4, whether that makes a difference or not.

Found this solution on the apple discussions for error 1602 problem. Pretty simple, just turn off the auto lock until you get through with the update.
"This error happens because the iPod Touch is on lock which means you have to unlock or put your lock options to more that 15 mins so iTunes can put the IPT to update mode so this should help"

I am still having this same error 1602. I went to the apple support section and found this on the 1602 error. I did exactly what they said to do. Remove the programs and reinstall them. No luck, still have the same problem. This was just a waste of an hour. This time when I call apple I probably wont be so nice. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306084
