Im very doubtful it will work again. An electronic device was submerged in water....how often do they work after that happens?

First, I'd avoid giving the OP ways to get around the warranty - iLounge has made their opinion on fraud very clear.

Second, no, that wouldn't be covered under warranty. According to Apple (http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/#warranty7) - "Apple's Limited Warranty for iPod excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications. Please review the warranty for further details." That would very clearly be "accident."

Finally, even if you snap the back on and try to fake through it, you're missing one thing - there's a small piece of litmus paper in the headphone jack that changes color when exposed to water. Undoubtedly it's been exposed and changed color. First thing the Apple Geniuses will do is look in the headphone jack before exchanging it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you're S.O.L.

EDIT: Forgot to mention some tips/tricks I've read (not fraud) -- whatever you do, do NOT turn it back on until you are 100% sure it's dry. Otherwise you'll short it out in a second. Also, you may want to search - some people were able to douse their wet iPods with alcohol (rubbing or similar) which "pushed" the water out and allowed it to dry better (no guarantees). Last option is to drop it into a bad of dry rice and hopefully they'll help dry it out..

I'm assuming you're a kid...so I will say, next time don't have your mom do your laundry! Lesson learned.

Don't turn it on. I suggest that you give it a week to dry out.

My 1G nano got wet when it was on. The screen kind of smeared then went blank. I turned it off and let it dry out for a week and it came back to life and has worked fine ever since.

That is true, let it dry for at least several days. I would just sell it in ebay and get your self a new one.

Wow, advice of fraud, then advice on selling it on eBay to a person who would presume its new, nice suggestions guys

I'm no expert, but failures of specific components usually have distinct sideaffects, i.e. broken harddrive = frowny face or folder icon with an exclamation point (at least in older ipods). Its possible that only one part was damaged, that you could fix. I'd say let it dry out a week, then see what happens when you turn it on.

Well, not to stand up for him or anything, but its possible he meant sell it advertised as broken. Theres a huge market on ebay for buying broken ipods, repairing them, and then reselling them. Could be what he meant.

This forum doesn't allow discussing warranty fraud.

I say you just pay the $200 fee.

Or maybe just get an iPod Classic.

I hope that's what he meant, agree there is a huge market. I just don't want the OP to hurt a possible future touch user.

the touch like cell phones has a water damage indicator in built which is normally a peice of paper that turns a color when exposed to water.

so warranty is void by default.

I sold my gf's broken sidekick for $63 dollars. The phone still turned on though and the lcd was in working order along with the battery and charger. I see broken stuff being sold on ebay all the time.

The only other thing I could think of that might be of help is, did you purchase an accidental damage plan from the electronics store you purchased it from?

I washed a nano and a motorola q and both came back to life. Put the iPod on the back of your tv, the part with the vents (assuming it is not a flat screen) this is dry constant heat. Leave it there for a week. Move it for one day to the top of the dryer while it is running, put it on top of a thin washcloth and don't let it get too hot. Then one day on top of the refrigerator. The combo of heat and vibration seems to work good luck

How long did it take you to figure this method out? lol I'd rather throw the damn thing away and buy a new one.

ya i tried turning it on by plugging it in after a couple days and it owrked. but the problemis theres a watermark on the screen, but its starting to go away. One part of the screen dosnt work when you touch it, but that might go away also. The power button and wifi are also broken, wich i think is because they are both part of the back. the back also bent when it was in the wash, so i think that replacing the back is going to work. but where can i find a back.

Can we have a friggin' IQ test when people sign up to this site, or at least something that can gauge one's intelligence, I mean, WTF??? The dude above me is a MORON...again, can some mod get these type of posts out of here, I feel fraud brings down the forum. Little people with little thought. Again don't listen to the tool above me. Argh, and dude(OP) your touch is fried, buy a new touch, be careful with a $500 device next time, and do your own laundry.....

Well, that's nice that his suggestion is useful - it's also fraud. And who pays for the fraud? We do in higher prices. Thanks so much.

If you're not smart enough to pull it out of your pants before they go into the wash, why should we pay for your mistake?

I hope it was a 'rib', because that kind of suggestion is just dumb....this kid should have to pay for his silly mistake. Although, I would love to see the whole scene of him trying to return it, with a sad puppy dog face....but then again, I am glad his touch broke, now the OP has learned a lesson....to dry clean! ;)

I dropped a cell phone in a swimming pool once. It sank and was recovered. I did not try to turn it on. I removed the battery and dunked the phone in distilled water a couple of times (to remove any salts or solids that might have gotten inside). Then I put the phone on my dashboard (it was NOT summer, the car was about 90F). In a day I tried the phone and it worked without a problem.

I dropped my ipod in water a week ago... i'm going to try the rice method, but are there any faster methods? I also put it in my car's dashboard to dry off but then moved it. my ipod only turns on to show the sad ipod, and it makes funny noises. does anybody know what to do?

I put my son's 8GB itouch through a complete wash cycle 3 days ago. In his jeans. I thought it would be garbage. Checked online and people said to let it dry out and then turn on. Some said to put it in rice to speed drying. I put itouch in a sealed container with dry rice for 2 days and then charged it and it works fine. I don't know if the rice helped but I am amazed any electronic device can survive a full wash cycle.

My mom dropped her phone in the toilet, she took it apart and let it dry in the sun for about half an hour. After that it worked fine for hte mopst part, maybe you should try doing the same here.

ok, I've submersed all of them all in my toilet. Now I'll take then out, rinse and put in a container of rice. Is Uncle Ben's good?

I like cajun music - will rice & beans work?

Large silica gel packets along with the ipod inside a ziplock for 72 hours. It will dry it out.

I signed up to convey this info. About 4 months ago, I accidentally washed my 16GB iTouch. Like an idiot, I turned the thing on a few hours later, it made a tiny zapping noise, then went totally dead. A week later, nothing still. Now, about 3.5 months later of not having touched the thing, I decided I would try to charge it and if it didn't charge, I'd break it open to see what its guts looked like. Well, I guess 3 months was long enough for it to dry. Plugged it in, got the white apple on a grey background, and the sucker started to charge. Slid the bar over, there are all my apps, icons, etc. All my music and playlists are also intact. Sound works fine, but haven't tried the headphone jack yet.
The point to all this is, don't throw an intact iTouch out if it's been laundered and seems dead. I'm not sure how long it takes to safely dry out, but a week isn't long enough, and 3 months sure is. Now I've got a $300 iTouch back on a hunch. I almost threw it out, too, but it was such a pretty device, I thought I'd keep it around.
