It's quite a pain to have to synch music and movies on iPhone. In the Apple store, I had no problem seeing the "Manage music manually" option on the store's laptop. Yet when I get home and plug iPhone into my PC, I don't see the option within iTunes. I have the most up to date iTunes and iPhone software. Any ideas? Thanks much.

No manually managing content with the iphone. Maybe someday, but probably not.

I am not sure if that's true. No disrespect... but I saw the feature myself on the Genius Bar's laptop. I am curious if it's possible on a Mac and not a PC. It certainly looks possible on a Mac.

I have the manually manage music and videos on both my Mac and PC. I have no idea why it wouldn't show up on yours. I use this feature all the time to drag and drop music to my iPhone. This feature arrived with the latest version of iTunes.

I will also add that since iTunes 7.6, I have the ability to manually manage music on the iPhone.

Maybe it's just me, but the manual option does not seem to work with Podcasts. I still have to use sync on them.

Has anyone else tried to manually manage Podcasts since they added the option for music at least in 7.6?

Haven't tried with podcasts yet, only music & music videos. I'll check it when I get home.

Only took them half a year. It would be nice to have disk mode to. Maybe once SDK comes out.

I just don't get it - I re-installed iTunes 7.6 and I am still not seeing the option to manage music manually. I also poured through "Edit>Preferences" and couldn't find it there either. The "Summary" tab when my iphone is visible within iTunes also doesn't include the option. Am I just looking in the wrong place here?

It should be right there on the summary page when your iPhone is connected.

On my PC right now I have:

Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected
Sync only checked songs and videos
Manually manage music and videos

Yeah - not for me. On my Summary page, I see two buttons in the center section: "Check for Updates" and "Restore".

This might be a pointless idea - not sure if this would affect the result, but have you got the latest firmware on your iPhone? Or was the option to manually sync only a result of the iTunes update?

I believe it was a result of 7.6. I have the latest firmware as well (1.1.3). No clue what is going on here.

Ok - I couldn't be more of an idiot. It was a matter of scrolling down to the Options section of the Summary tab. Nice. Thanks for the help guys.
