I got burned on a purchase of a used iphone (pay pal dispute in effect) and im looking around the net to buy a used one trying to get a cheaper price all i keep running into is people selling iphone for 100+ over retail on a locked iphone and and upwards of $400+ on unlocked ones. how and why is this happening ?

I don't know why people are paying over the odds for a locked phone, but unlocking is still quite scary on an iPhone, so a pre-unlocked one is quite a desirable product.

I would just go to the apple store and buy a new one for the same price as you would get a used on off ebay.

Remember, eBay/Internet is GLOBAL. Some countries can't get iPhone yet, so their only avenue is online. Comprendo?

When you say you got burned on one are you saying that you won an auction and didn't get the product?

Oy... Paypal has lotsa fine prints. If u paid with your cc, u may ask your card company to reverse the charges. Typically u have 60 days to do so.

Unlocking the iPhone isn't really that scary or a procedure if you're very careful and pay attention to the finer details. It's worth doing a lot of reading and preparation before you try. And I would also recommend NOT trying the latest method right after a new firmware comes out.

I'm posting this on an originally purchased 1.0.2 iPhone which I've upgraded to every firmware and now have unlocked inT-Mobile. :)

lol ... to actually post that with THAT nickname ... made me laugh :D

If you have the chance to get your hands on a cheap locked one I'd do it. unlocking is pretty easy these days with the release of ziphone and everything. the only problem is most people KNOW that so locked phones cost almost the same as unlocked ...
