I ordered iTrip at the same time I ordered my iPod mini directly from Apple. I assumed that they will send an iTrip that fits the iPod mini. But it doesn't. Are there different iTrips? And why would Apple not send an iTrip compatoble with the iPod mini?

Did they send you the iTrip for the 1G and 2G iPods, with the larger firewire post sized plastic plug? Or are you just upset that it sits off-center?
There is no iTrip just for the mini.

Just found out that there are two iTrip devices: one is the "Original iTrip" and the other one is the "New iTrip". Apple shipped the "Original" with my iPod mini order. However, the mini is not compatible with the "Original".
Apple should have known better....

The people at Griffin Technologies are terrific: they agreed to exchange my "Original iTrip" for a "New iTrip" although I bought it from the Apple store.
I still don't understand why Apple solde me an incompatible iTrip. A friend of mine gave me a "New iTrip" to test it with my iPod mini and it worked without problem.

The apple store sells both versions of the iTrip. On the product page for the Original iTrip, it states in big red letters, "Supports original iPod with FireWire port. " On the product page for the new iTrip, it states, again, in big red letters, "Supports all iPods with Dock Connector. "
Don't blame Apple. They simply sent you what you ordered.

Besides - how's Apple supposed to know whether or not you had a first or second generation iPod and needed the original iTrip? If they see the original on the order with a mini, I'd hope they'd still send the original instead of trying to second-guess an order.

i'm pretty sure they can't assume that your buying the itrip for the ipod you are buying. who knows, maybe you have an old ipod, and want to buy an itrip for that ipod... you are in control of what you buy.

WRONGO!
Before slagging off on Rambo like an embarassing Apple Fan-Boy,
did anyone think to check Apple's store and see
if it was possible to order one iTrip vs the other (new vs old?).
Hey! Neat! It turns out - you CAN'T!
When you order an iPod mini - it just asks if you'd like the
iTrip, and then - presto! - it's added to your inbasket!
Guess it's not Rambo's fault!
But don't blame ferrel - he just thought Apple could do no wrongo!
He no likey when people offend his favorite multi-national coporation
like the good little consumer droogie he be! Salud and buy more crap now!
