I've had my 16GB Touch since early January, and I've been happy with it until now. All of the sudden, dead pixels are popping up like crazy (about 7 so far in the past day or two) and my battery life has been cut drastically. On a full charge last night, I played music for TWO hours, wifi off, brightness down to about 30%, and my battery was at about 20%. Whats could be causing this?

mh ... sounds like a hardware defect. I'd take it back if I were you, this definetly shouldnt happen.
I guess that the two problems are somehow connected. so maybe your battery is leaking and the acid kills parts of the screen or something like that. Well, just go to an apple store or call apple and ask for a new one.

thanks for the fast reply. Im going to take it back tomorrow and either exchange it for a new one or get an 80GB classic to store everything/use in the car and a 4GB nano for working out/running/riding

FYI: the ipod touch has better sound quality than the classic/nano 3rd gen. maybe you should know that.
in the end, normally this doesn't happen with a touch, so if you get a new one you should be fine. but do whatever suits you best ;-)

thanks, for some reason I thought it was the other way around. I suppose I'll head to the store and take a listen to both while I'm there. I'm not sure why, Im slightly losing my interest with the touch as I have more problems with them

well, there are some tests who say the classics sound is better. that may be true from a technical standpoint, so maybe the classic has technically cleaner sound. but while all ipods are not very good in producing the ... I think it's called "3d image" of the sound, which just means they sound a little flat ... the classic - at least imo - fails completly to do it. I found the sound to be just extermly flat and unreal. a lot of people felt like me, at least they posted that in the apple forums, but I don't know, maybe it's me.
well, don't know. did you have more than one touch yet? because yours seems clearly broken. I have head no problems of any sort with my touch, it works really flawlessly. but I don't wanna talk you into something you don't want, I'm just saying I'm much more happy with the touch than I was with my classic.

yeah, I had gotten one for christmas, but had to exchange it a few days later because the touch screen was not responding properly and it would randomly reset. Thanks for the info on the sound though, I'll be making my decision sometime tomorrow
