Hello, I'm looking at the Iphone now that is a 16gig version and would actually combine my Ipod and Razr into one device. I wanted to wait for the 8gig to have some bugs worked out, but now at 16gig I'm sold it will have plenty of memory for me.

1) What I"m curiuos about is the speed of the network? (I've used a friends Itouch WiFi does it compare?

2 )Is it a 3G network on the new phones?

3) What sort of battery life are people seeing using it as a phone, Ipod, surfing?

4) Is there anything differnt on the new version (hardware wise) then the 8gig?

Thanks in advance for any comments and info.

1) Speed is the same as the iTouch's wifi

2) No, although a new version will probably be in iPhone 2.0, which is most likely coming sometime in the fall

3) Personally? Using the iPhone for all of its various functions, you can burn through an entire full charge in about 6 - 8 hours, which in my opinion is pretty good. I would imagine that wifi and video burns through the battery fastest.

4) Now here is where things get tricky. Personally, my new 16gig iPhone is suffering from severe negative black issues. This is a problem with the screen where the black levels aren't rendered properly, and you don't get very good color representation in videos. My buddy has the same problem with the same iPhone he just got as well, which leads me to believe Apple is back to using the same lousy screens they did in the first batch of the iPod touch that was released back in September. Honestly, I'd hold off on the purchase for now, I'm in the process of returning my iPhone tomorrow, and waiting a few weeks, hopefully another batch will be manufactured with proper working screens.

Although y3k said it perfectly, the wifi will be the same but the edge network will be less than half as fast.

Ok cool, thank you both for the replies. I used a Itouch but found the times when I was needing to look up something like movie times, or a place to eat, I had no WiFi hotspot, so I think the Iphone will help that as well as consolidate 2 devices into one.

I just purchased a 16gb and it is awesome, blacks are black. Wifi is good enough at times a little slow depending on reception or whatever

Is it compared to an iTouch? To be fair, it might not be noticeable in and of itself but you definitely see it compared to an iTouch. There are entire scenes in my pictures that are lost because the iPhone screen is rendering them wrong. This is based on side by side comparisons, not just anecdotal evidence. I'm hoping they have good ones in the wild, or I'll have to return it for a refund.
